Sunday Sermon Hope for All - November 29 Scripture: Luke 2:8-15 (NRSV) In that region there were shepherds living in the elds, keeping watch over their ock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terried. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior , who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will nd a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger .” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!” When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.” My Notes: MONDAY: Luke 2:8-15 A Christma s Carol REFLECTION: I started listening to Christmas music this week. I couldn’t wait—yet Advent is about waiting and anticipating. The angels in the scripture sang “the rst Christmas carol” saying Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!” What will your response be to Christ’s presence with us this season? PRAYER: May I sing to the Lord a new song. Even now may songs of praise be hums in my heart as I anticipate your coming again to the world. Glory to you God in Christ! TUESDAY: Luke 2:8-15 Overwhelming presence REFLECTION: The shepherds stood in the place of “wow” and “whoa.” Amazed and afraid. When we are caught up in between the wow and whoa remember the words of the angel who says, “Do not be afraid. I’ve got good news.” PRA YER: God, thank you for sending me the good news of Christ. WEDNESDAY: Luke 2:8-15 Go now REFLECTION: There was light, singing, fear, amazement and good news. From th ere the shepherds said, “Let us go to see…” With haste, scripture says they went to see Jesus. SENDING FORTH: Go with haste into the world, into your work, into your family and share the good news. THURSDAY: Isaiah 61 Jesus sets us free REFLECTION: The Isaiah passage is one on which Liberation theologians like Gustavo Guitierrez center their work. It is the belief that we are called to be in solidarity with the poor, the prisoner , blind and oppressed. With whom do you stand in solidarity? AFFIRM: I see my liberty intricately connected to the freedom of others. FRIDAY: Isaiah 61 Jesus sets you free REFLECTION: Consider the ways you are poor: in spirit, in health or in nances? What about being a prisoner? In what ways do you feel behind bars or trapped? Are you blind to certain things, yourself or others? And then where do you feel bound—as if you have little room to move? PRAYER: Thank you for coming to set me free. The things I identied in my reection do not have to be my reality. They can be my past. And I can live in my future free. SATURDAY: Luke 4:16-19 Jesus fullls the Scripture  REFLECTION: Jesus reads the prophet’s words from Isaiah 61 as th e Incarnation, word fullled. PRA YER: In Jesus, God keeps God’s promises.
