WELCOME TO OUR LIBRARIESSummer is an iconic part of every Australian’s life: a time to celebrate, to reflect on the past year and anticipate a fresh beginning as the new year dawns. There are BBQ’s, the beach and, of course, the chance to curl up with a great book!
We have partnered with the State Library of Victoria to offer the SUMMER READ. The focus this year is Victoria, with loads of Victorian authors featured. Ensure you register to be in the running for the SUMMER READ competition prizes.
Keep the laughter going in the school holidays by getting your children and teenagers out of the house and into the library! They will be thrilled by the range of interesting activities on offer in Holiday Fun.
Take some time for yourself and come along to a Special Event or an Author Encounter. It’s a great way to recharge and feel inspired for the year ahead.
One not to be missed is Don Watson, when he joins us in rural Bannockburn to muse on the meaning of the Australian bush. Don Watson is perhaps best known for his speech-writing for former Prime Minister Paul Keating and his subsequent award-winning book Recollections of a Bleeding Heart: A Portrait of Paul Keating PM.
We also offer great opportunities to connect with technology. Come to training sessions for internet, social media, tablets, iPads and much, much more. With iPads for loan and free WiFi available, libraries are places for the whole family to embrace and enjoy. Make the library part of your summer!

Polixeni Papapetrou In the Wimmera 1864 #1 (2006)pigment ink print; edition 4/6 Collection: Geelong Gallery – Gift of Dr Robert Nelson through the Australian Government's Cultural Gifts Program, 2010.
In the Wimmera 1864 #1 from the Haunted Country series is amongst the earliest works by the artist to have been staged in the Australian landscape and is one in which she explores the narrative of the 'lost child'.
Treat yourself by visiting the Geelong Gallery, one of Australia’s leading and oldest regional galleries, right in the heart of the city. From iconic colonial masterpieces to compelling contemporary works of art, the Geelong Gallery is the perfect place to unwind. Free entry. Open daily 10am–5pm.
Most Australians live in cities and cling to the coastal fringe, yet our sense of what an Australian is – or should be – is drawn from the vast and varied inland called the bush. But what do we mean by 'the bush', and how has it shaped us? Starting with his forebears' battle to drive back nature and make a living from the land, Don Watson explores the bush as it was and as it now is: the triumphs and the ruination, the commonplace and the bizarre, the stories we like to tell about ourselves and the national character, and those we don't.
