The Summer Reading Challenge

How to take part in the challenge

The Summer Reading Challenge is a free

national programme to support children’s

reading. Reading levels can drop during the six

week holiday and we’re working hard to make

books and libraries fun this summer.

The Reading Challenge starts on 11 July and

finishes on 13 September. Colonel Crawley will

be visiting schools over the summer term to

encourage children and let them know how

they can take part in the Challenge.

We look forward to welcoming you this summer.

Welcome to Crawley Acres at Winchester Discovery Centre!Record breaking explorer Colonel Crawley welcomes you to his ancestral home.

This year, by signing up to the Summer Reading Challenge, you can be part of a world

record attempt! Visit Winchester Discovery Centre on 11 July, sign up for the Challenge,

and help us break the record for the number of pledges received for a reading campaign.

The Summer Reading Challenge is for kids aged 4–11 of all reading abilities, and it’s

totally free to take part. Colonel Crawley, our resident record breaking expert, will be here

to guide kids through their attempt to read six books over the summer holidays, earning

stickers and free tickets to special events along the way.

Alongside the Challenge we are running a whole host of brilliant workshops, fantastic

storytelling sessions and showing our favourite family films.

We would like to thank the Winchester Science Centre for supporting the Summer

Reading Challenge in 2015.
