Dress Down Day Success Thanks to all of the families participating in the Dress Down Days. Our next one will be Friday, January 12, when our students can wear their favorite College or Professional Sports Team t-shirt, sweatshirt, or jersey, with athletic pants, jeans or uniform bottoms. No belts or tucking.

Scratch off tickets in any amount are needed for an auction basket. A box will be located in the office during school hours for them to be placed in. Thank you for your help.

PRINCIPAL’S CORNER Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! What a way to end the year with a nice Christmas assembly having our students use their God given talents to remind us of the birth of Jesus. It does my heart good to see the joy on the kids’ faces and enthusiasm they show when singing their songs. What a great blessing we have to be able to gather as a school community and worship this way. On behalf of the entire staff, we would like to say thank you to all of you who have brought treats to eat and presents for our staff. What kindhearted people you are and generous to share with the Green Park staff. 2017 GEOGRAPHY BEE CHAMPION Congratulations to Christopher Lind (8th Grade) our 2017 Geography Bee Champion and Runner-up, Addie Cunningham (8th Grade). Chris will now move on to the next level and take a Geography test and should he place in the top 100 scores in the state, will qualify to participate in the State Geography Bee in 2018. DADDY DAUGHTER DANCE SCHEDULED FOR JANUARY Green Park’s 1st Annual Daddy/Daughter Dance will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018! Girls from JK - 8th grade are invited to this wonderful evening. Girls may be escorted by Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, or any other adult. Light refreshments will be served. The cost is $10/ticket with a $30/family max. The ticket cost will be billed to the TADS account after the dance. Completed ticket forms can be brought to the event or can be completed the night of the event. Photo packages will be available for purchase the evening of the dance. Photo packages are paid directly to the photographer. A flyer is attached with all of the details. Questions? NEW SEMESTER OF VI-BORG ROBOTICS TO BEGIN IN JANUARY Interested in Robotics? The second semester of Robotics will be starting on January 3, 2018 from 5:30-7:30pm. This is open to any student in grades 4-8. Teams of two will be formed to program a robot to participate in a competition on April 7 at Mizzou. If interested, please let Mrs. Ryherd know by January 10. The cost is $50, which includes registration and participation. Practices will be on Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30pm on Jan. 3, 10, 17, 24, Feb. 7, Mar. 28, and Apr. 4. (If Confirmation is an issue, please see Mrs. Ryherd for solutions.) It would be great to have you find a friend to work together to solve the puzzles and problems with a team mindset. We can have up to 12 teams of 2 students each. BOX TOP COLLECTION UNDERWAY Green Park will once again be collecting Box Tops for Education. Box Tops will be collected by your child's teacher until January 8, 2018. This is a HUGE fundraiser for GP. Each Box Top is worth 10 cents that will go directly to our school. Get collecting! Please note: You do not need to attach the box tops to a collection sheet. You may place them in baggies (preferably 25 to a bag).

DECEMBER AND JANUARY CHAPEL OFFERINGS Our chapel offerings for December and January will be going to support Katie Cares. Katie Cares is a nonprofit organization established December 1, 2013. The organization’s goal is to provide critical awareness, resources, support, and financial assistance to support the homeless, mentally ill, and elderly left uncared for by society. Their motto is, “Giving others hope and a hand to hold while spreading the word of Jesus Christ.” The founder, Katie Schmierbach, has been ministering to the homeless since 2003 after seeing the amount of homeless on the streets of Chicago. She came up with the idea of creating care bags for the homeless. Katie Cares distributes 40-500 bags in a single trip. Not only are we collecting money for her ministry, we will also be collecting items to make Bags of Blessings. We will assemble the bags during Lutheran Schools Week at the end of January. Items will be collected in each classroom. Please see the Green Sheet attachment for listed items.

STRETCH PROGRAM PARENT REFERRALS NOW ONLINE STRETCH, Mehlville School District’s program for students identified as gifted, will be accepting parent referrals for the 2018-2019 school year for students currently enrolled in grades K-7. The STRETCH program provides educational interventions for students whose mental capacity and learning potential are so advanced that they need services beyond the level of those ordinarily provided. Starting January 1, 2018, the permission to test/nomination form will be available on the Mehlville School District website. This form may be accessed by selecting Schools, STRETCH Gifted Program and Permission to Test/Nomination Form or by navigating to rebrand.ly/permission18. If you have questions about the program, call the STRETCH Office at 467-5220. The deadline for completed referrals is February 2, 2018. A letter with details is attached.

LHSS OFFERING A MINI POM CAMP Grab your dance shoes! Lancerette Mini Pom Camp will be Saturday, January 13, from 8:00am to 10:30am at Lutheran South. This event is open to all girls in grades 1-8. The Mini Pom performance will be at the Varsity Boys Basketball game, Tuesday, January 16. Please contact the Lancerette coach, Mrs. Reis, for information and to register at dljaareis@att.net. Mini Pom Camp costs $25 and includes a t-shirt to wear at the performance.
