Changes are coming to the Emmaus and Chrysalis Board of Directors. The Unified Board Structure is a pro- gram to help simplify the Board of Directors structure for Emmaus Ministries communities that support more than one of the Emmaus programs (Emmaus, Chrysalis, Face to Face or Journey to the Table). Because the Greater Indianapolis Area Emmaus Community has more than one Emmaus Ministry, both the GIA Emmaus Community and Chrysalis Community have voted to simplify their board structures. Several members of the Board are on both the Chrysalis and Emmaus Board of Directors in the same or multiple roles. This move is meant to lighten their load. This does not mean that less people are needed! If you have a heart for Emmaus or for Chrysalis there are several roles that need filling as the Board heads into 2019! Please prayerfully consider joining the Board of Directors to help support Chrysalis and/or Emmaus. The next meeting is No- vember 12th at 7pm at Tuxedo Park Baptist Church, 29 North Grant Avenue, Indianapolis IN 46201 (a phone call in number via skype is available for those that can’t attend in person). Anyone who has attended Em- maus or Chrysalis can be on the Board. If you are interested and need more information, contact Steve Gunn, the Community Lay Director, at 314-709-3412 or his email is [email protected]. With these changes, there will also be changes to the program for both Em- maus and Chrysalis. To help us with these changes the Upper Room is educat- ing Community Trainers for each community. Each Community Trainer will train both Clergy and Laity on their roles within the local Emmaus Ministries Commu- nities in accordance to The Upper Room model. The GIAEC Community train- er is Terri Whitehead. Thanks Terri for agreeing to step up and be the GIAEC trainer! With the new structure, the Upper Room published the first ever Emmaus Ministries Community Manual. “This resource takes the place of both The Upper Room Handbook on Emmaus and The Upper Room Hand- book on Chrysalis. It explains the ins and outs, and the whys and hows of all four Upper Room Emmaus Ministries – The Walk to Emmaus, Chrysalis, Face to Face, and Journey to the Table. The Emmaus Minis- tries Community Manual provides a comprehensive overview and explanation for the Emmaus movement and all of the ministries, both from theological and technical perspectives.” The Board will share more information as it is available. The best way is by using the GIAEC Website is located at http://indyemmaus.org. This site has been recent-ly updated and has more changes coming soon including the ability to submit applications online along with online payments. The GIAEC has a closed Facebook site, Search for Emmaus on Facebook. If you are already a member and have Facebook friends that have attended please add them. This is a great way to stay in touch with your Emmaus brothers and sisters. If you send [email protected] an email, Jannell Gunn will invite you to the group. The GIAEC email account is [email protected]. This email is used only for Emmaus related items and for sending out an electronic version of the Go Fourth Newsletter. If you need to be added, contact Jannell Gunn at [email protected] or 317-989-5892.

HOW DO I FIND EMMAUS INFORMATION?

When you are considering sponsoring a pilgrim here are a few things to be aware of for sponsorship. The GIAEC asks each sponsor to:

1. Speak with your pilgrim in advance and explain the events of the 72 hour experi-ence. Nothing is considered ‘secret’, but you may want to just briefly describe ‘dying moments’ and ‘candlelight’ as going to chapel for examination of conscience. 2. Fill out a Pilgrim Application form with the help of your pilgrim and send it to the Community Registrar, Ron Allison. He will then notify you and your pilgrim all the spe-cifics you will need to know concerning the week-end.

3. Gather Agape letters for your pilgrim. They should be dropped off anytime prior to or at Candelight.

4. Pick-up your pilgrim and bring them to the site of the Walk by 7:00 P.M. on Thursday of the Walk (Some people will take their pilgrim out to dinner before the Walk on Thursday evening. That is up to you and your pilgrim.) You will also need to stay for the Sponsor’s Hour that takes place immediately after the Pilgrims are called away into the conference room on Thursday. Sponsor’s Hour consists of praying for your pilgrim while holding their Cross and receiving Communion.

5. While your pilgrim is on their Walk, check in with their family during the weekend to see if they have any needs.

6. Attend Candlelight on Saturday of the Walk. Candlelight starts at 8:00 p.m. sharp. Most people start arriv-ing at 7:30 p.m. You will again pray for your pilgrim while holding their Cross during the service. Please try to sit on an aisle seat so you can see your pilgrim when they come into the room at 9:00 p.m.

7. Attend the Closing at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon of the Walk. After Closing you will take your pilgrim home. While you are taking them home, encourage them attend the next Gathering and other Emmaus events.
