    INFORMATION FOR NEWLY ADMITTEDGRADUATE STUDENTS

    AtTempleUniversity,theGraduateAdmissionsprocessisdecentralizedandhandledbyeachindividualschoolorcollege or the Main Campus, Health Sciences Campus,and the School o Podiatric Medicine. Students are respon-sible or making initial contact with the Oice o UniversityHousing and Residential Lie when requesting housinginormation. This can be done in person, by telephone,ax, or e-mail. Students should provide University HousingandResidentialLifewiththefullname,studentI.D.orT

    number, permanent address, telephone, and e-mail address.In order to receive a Graduate Housing packet, a studentmust first be officially admitted to the University Housingand Residential Lie. Housing packets are mailed to studentsbeginninginApril(forfallapplicants)andNovember(for

    HousingpacketsaremailedtostudentsbeginninginApril(forfallapplicants)andNovember(forspringapplicants).Inorder to receive a Graduate Housing packet, a student mustfirst be officially admitted to the University Housing andResidentialLife.Allapplicantsarerequiredtopaya$250HousingDeposit.HousingDepositsarepaiddirectlyto

    Applicationswillbeprocessedandassignmentswillbeofferedasspaceisavailable.Assignmentsaremadeindeposit-date order or those students who complete theirHousing License. Unfortunately, due to the demand forhousing and the number of bed spaces that typically becomeavailable each year, University Housing cannot guaranteethat housing will be available for every applicant.

    Cancellation Policy

    When University Housing and Residential Lie has assignedall bed spaces, we will notiy those students not yet assigned,oering them the option to remain either on a waiting list oran assignment or to process a cancellation o their request orUniversity Housing, reunding their deposit.

    Each o our graduate acilities oers residents AMENITIES.The location o our acilities provides residents with easyaccess to Temples academic buildings and libraries.ApartmentsatPRSCandTriangleHousearepartiallyfur -nished,andresidentsofTriangleApartmentshavetheflex -ibility o requesting either a partial urnished or unurnishedapartment. Both acilities oer community space or residentstosocializeandplanevents.On-sitelaundryfacilitiesarealso available. Electric, heat, water utilities, and cable TVare a part o the room rate.

    FAMILY HOUSING OPTIONSTempleUniversityHousingcanoffertomarriedand/orsinglestudentswithonedependentchild(twelveyearsoldoryoungeratthetimeofapplication) FAMILY HOUSINGatTriangleApartmentsandthePodiatricStudentResidenceComplex. Families who request one-bedroom apartmentsare charged the individual rate or housing; those amiliesrequesting two-bedroom apartments are charged twice theindividualrate(costforeachbedroom).Three-bedroomapartments are not available or Family Housing. Studentsinterested in Family Housing should indicate their need onGraduateHousingLicense(Application)

    INFORMATION FOR RETURNING GRADUATESTUDENTS

    DuringtheSpringsemester,currentstudentsresidinginUniversity Housing have the opportunity to participate in aRoom Selection process to return or the next academic year.

    Eligibility to participate in this process is based on:

    Good financial standing with the University

    Paying the annual Housing Deposit to theUniversity

    Being a resident within University Housingduring Spring semester

    Residents who meet the eligibility requirements will participatein a Housing Selection process that allows them to select anapartmentandroommate(s)whereapplicable.Residentswill receive notice about the speciics o each years RoomSelection process prior to selection.

    Students who are currently enrolled at Temple University anddo not live in University Housing are permitted to request aspace in University Housing ater the Room Selection processis complete i they meet the irst two criteria or eligibility.Assignmentswillbeofferedasspaceisavailable.

    STAFFING, SECURITY, AND AMENTITIES

    Several dierent individuals make up the STAFFING o eachUniversity Housing acility. The Residential Lie sta that man-age the daily operations o our graduate acilities include

    one proessional Resident Director (RD), who supervises theGraduateResidentAssistants(GRA)thatresideateachfacili -ty.GRAsarestudentstaffmemberswhohavebeencarefullyselected and trained to assist students. Residential Lie oper-ates an oice at both the Triangle Complex and the PodiatricStudentResidenceComplex(PSRC).Residentsareofferedavariety o social, cultural, and academic programs throughouttheyear.Additionally,ResidentialLifeandMaintenanceStaffareon-call24hoursadaytorespondtoemergencysituations.

    GET CONNECTED

    Telephone and high-speed internet access are oered asamenities to residential students who live in university-ownedacilities. Every bedroom on campus has one telephone jackor each resident. Students must provide their own true touch-tone telephone, not a pulse telephone. Cordless telephonesare not recommended.

    Using the university telephone service, students can:

    Receive incoming callsMake ree fve-digit internal campus callsMakeemergency911callsUse a prepaid calling card to make local, toll ree,suburban. long distance, and international calls

    Temple strongly recommends that students bring their own

    true touch-tone telephone and plug it into the jack. Even iyou primarily plan to use a cell phone, cellular phone signalsin the residence halls are not always strong and service is notalways reliable. In the event o an emergency, you can use

    yourlandlinephonetocall9-9-1-1.Bydoingthis,youhavethe added advantage o having your location automaticallypassedalongtothe911policedispatcher,whichisnotthecase when using a cell phone.

    Voicemail is provided to all residential students. To obtain

    voice mail, log in to the getconnected.temple.edu websiteand click on the box indicating voice mail is desired. Youwill receive a confrmation e-mail acknowledging yourrequest. This confrmation message includes instructions onhowtointializeyourvoicemailaswellasatemporarypass-word you will need or this process.

    GRADUATE HOUSING SELECTIONPROCESS

    Room Retention Process forReturning Graduate Students(select the same room)

    Graduate students will use the Room RetentionfunctioninStudentWebSelf-Assigntoretaintheircurrent room booking or the next academic yearin addition to adding a new meal plan booking

    or the next academic year. Students who have acurrent room assignment in housing will be extend-ed this opportunity during the Graduate HousingSelection Process.

    General Room Selection for Newand Returning Graduate StudentsWhether you are a returning graduate studentlooking or new accommodations in the graduatehousing inventory or an incoming graduate studentrequesting housing accommodations on cam-pus, students will have the opportunity to searchor available rooms during the General RoomSelection Process or graduate students.

    Once your housing application has been complet-ed and preerences submitted, access the StudentWebSelf-Assign(SWSA)systemtobookfallandspring housing assignments, add roommates, andselect meal plans.

    The Housing Selection Process is available on airst-come, irst-served basis. The earlier you submita deposit and complete the application process,the better your chances are to receive your pre-

    ferredaccommodations.Althoughdemandisgreat and no guarantees can be made, studentswho submit the deposit and complete the appli-cation process by the dates mentioned generallyreceive housing accommodations.

    Asspacebecomesavailable,allotherstudentswill be oered housing ater on-time groups havebooked their assignments. I you submit a depositand apply but are not oered housing, your hous-ing deposit will be reunded or applied to yourUniversity account.5

    THE HOUSING SELECTION PROCESS FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS IS A SIMPLE, THREESTEP PROCESS.

    STEP 1:SubmitaHousingDeposit.

    Newandreturningstudentsarerequiredtosubmita$250housingdepositbythesuggesteddates.

    STEP 2:CompletetheOnlineHousingApplication.

    Prior to selecting housing accommodations, we require students to complete the online housing applica-tion by indicating their room, meal plan and liestyle preerences.

    STEP 3:BookyourroomandmealplanusingStudentWebSelf-Assign(SWSA).

    SWSAenablesstudentstoaccessremotelythesystemaftersteps1and2havebeencompleted.This

    system is designed to handle requests on a irst-come, irst-served basis, so the sooner you book, thegreater your chances to secure accommodations.

    Furniture Rental

    TheTriangleApartmentsareunfurnished.Youmay bring your own urniture or rent a bed,dresser, desk and desk chair at approximately$160persemester.

    Notification About your Housingand Move-In Details

    You will receive a letter to confrm your requestor Graduate Housing along with importantinormation rom University Housing andResidential Lie.
