Privacy laws

Privacy Law can affect business operations such as disclosing contact or paperwork details, or the security protection of information.

It’s important to control information resources and control how people access it. Employers should mention when they collect information about employees and what they use it for. Employers should also provide access for their employees to use any of their private documentation and information.

E.g. It is illegal for a business to share private details or collect unnecessary details for their own use.

This piece of Australian legislation is the most important when it comes to work practices. The 2011 act covers consultations, enforcements, review of decisions, legal proceedings, incident reports, hazards, record keeping and protection of workers. It outlines fines for businesses that do not follow the proper procedures and policies. The WHS act also touches on permit holding, the rules for work committee meetings and the nomination of a WHS representative to revise any safety issues.

In relation to the events industry, all those aspects above must be taken into consideration especially when it comes to outdoor events. For example, festivals and athletic competitions.
