I am an M.Plan candidate at the University of Calgary, with specialization in urban design. My current research interests are in winter city design and landscape urbanism. Recently the following academic awards have been granted to me: EVDS Dean’s List 2014, Alberta Graduate Student Scholarship 2014, and EVDS Travel Abroad Scholarship 2014.
I have also recently returned from an exchange at RMIT Melbourne where I was able to greatly expand on my planning and design skills. The city is quite progressive and is frequently regarded as one of the world’s most livable cities. In this setting I learned best practices and projects from the city, lots of which can be applied in the Calgary context.
Previous work experience in the development and construction industry, most recently as a project coordinator. This job has given me knowledge of the pragmatic realities of urban planning and development such as responding to Requests For Proposal, scheduling, and budgeting.
This portfolio highlights the urban planning and design work that I have done over the past year.

Nanataq is a project that reintroduces water and topography to a former industrial area in Melbourne, Australia. This project was inspired by analyzing historic photographs of the Yarra River and how it has been manipulated over time. Bogs and wetlands once occupied the study area, but have long been destroyed to allow for industrial lands.
As waterways are cut through the industrial area, that earth is mounded adjacent to the water creating a gentle topogrpahy of peaks and valleys across the site. This also allows for soil remediation through capping and phytoremediation. Capping soils on the tops of ridges allows for the creation of linear parks along ridegelines with development on the slopes below.
This project was done in partnership with Chris Gulinao.

Working collaboratively as a group of nine at RMIT Melbourne, three master plans were created for Fishermen’s Bend. The goal of the studio was to encourage bold design thinking for a site 30 years into the future. Currently the site exists as an obsolete industrial area southwest of the Melbourne City Centre. Nine different ‘plug-ins’ or design interventions were created and utilized differently in each of the three plans. Each plan also had an overlying theme: Adapt - revitalizing heritage sites through adaptive reuse, Sculpt - topographic and ecological transformation, and Channel - aquatic networks.
The below plans were produced in a group to which I contributed, all renders were produced by myself.

DESCRIPTION
The industrial area is generally considered an undesirable place to be, yet in the present day there is no longer the need to segregate industry from other land uses. This presents an opportunity to begin mixing industry with other uses that can compliment or contribute to the industrial area.
Along the 36th Street corridor industrial lands are in close proximity to light rail. The two, however, benefit little from the other’s presence. This project examines how transit and industry can be paired in ways that are mutually beneficial. The overarching goal is to maintain and augment industry as the sector is crucial the area’s economic vitality.
The site’s unique character creates an opportunity for a new type of land use in Calgary - transit oriented industrial development.

SITE CONTEXT
DESCRIPTION BUILD OUT OF NORTH CENTRAL LRT
This project proposes a revitalizationof the Greenview Industrial Area withthe North Central LRT (NCLRT) actingas a catalyst for development. The overarching goal of the project is to make the area more transit oriented while maintaining the character of Greenview.
As many neighbourhoods in Calgary are currently experiencing gentrification, a neglected industrial area like Greenview could easily be destroyed an replaced with high-rise towers. This project aims to resist gentrification through a continuation of the current built form of the area. A new arts and artisanal district can augment the industrial space, which will bring new character and vitality to the area.
