BoathouseProfessor Cameron Campbell - Fall 2013

Designed for a single canoe user, the concept of the boathouse is based on duality, strong and delicate, which derived from the essay I wrote in early stage of the project. The strong element is represented by concrete which has a very bold character. The delicate element is represented by wood columns that is put in certain arrangement to produce a more softer look than the concrete. Although the concrete is considered to be masculine, it is actually the most brittle part of the house. Therefore the wood screen wall are put in order to support the brittle concrete shape. To avoid flooding, this particular boathouse is sitting back 30’ away from the river bank.

Transformers
Transformers is a chicken coop that can transform according to its owner’s need. We chose the design mainly for function and wanted the owner to have easy ac-cessibility and to be able to easily clean it. It is collapsible to make storage easier in the time when the coop is not in used. Not only for the owner, the coop is also designed based on the needs of the chickens. We learned about behaviors of the chicken and strategies in which will make the chickens comfortable. We provided enough space for up to 5 chicken and therefore maximized the egg productions for the owner.

EXTERIOR VIEW06 | 07
The NEST is an abstraction of a bird’s nest, a shelter which allows a nestling to grow and mature before vacating the nest. Similarly, this ecology classroom building provides a learning environment for students who are eager to learn about mother nature in the phase where they are almost ready to encounter the real world. Additionally, the spatial form and quality of the NEST is derived from this idea. Intense changes to the topography of the site has allowed the spatial quality inspired from the bird nest become possible. An artificial hill that connects the ground floor to the roof top will allow the students to ex-plore and observe the surrounding environments. Doors from each classrooms are opened to the outdoor center space, allowing direct access from indoor classroom to the outdoor environment.

Originally, this building was a ice cream factory which then turned into a candy shop. This project required the team to maintain the exterior facade of the building in order to preserve the old market look the surrounding buildings have. To adjust the building’s program into a Lost and Found Retail Center, we invented an organization strategy for the luggages, which at the same time serve as a display for the customers.
The luggages are coming from nearby airports and organized based on the month in which it comes to the Lost and Found Retail Center. Each month is represented by a tower that goes up from the basement through the second floor.

Pete Goche - Fall 2012
The purpose of this project is to activate a leftover opening space in King Pavilion
space. With limited amount carboard and yarn, the team has successfully created a
unique passageway for the passerby. Bracket system was used for this passageway in
order to utilized the existing structure within the opening. The team focused mainly
on the experience of the passerby upon passing this passageway. The complex
patten formed by the yarn, attracts some in-teractions and make the process of walking
more pleasurable for the passerby.

They enclosed both young adult and parents wings, which eventually encounter with each other in the middle. Abundant common spaces are formed below this meeting point and family member can communicate in these common spaces that are interconnected with one another. The purpose of the house is to enhance the communication between the two generations which often lacks.
