Going Beyond

Remember in the Google Search Video how Matt said that Google doesn’t search the web, but that it searches Google’s index of the web.

There are a lot of websites that Google doesn’t search because they are not part of it’s index.

The visible web is content on the web where search tools like Google can find, index, and offer to users as the result of a search.

The deep web (sometimes called the dark web or the invisible web) is part of the web that can’t be found directly by searching popular search tools.

Visible Web vs. Deep Web

If you don’t find what you are looking for using Google, it doesn’t mean it isn’t out there, but you may have to use a different search engine or look in a specialized data base to find it.

The deep web includes primary sources, statistics, and scholarly works that you may want to access for research purposes.

If you can’t find the information or credible websites you need using Google try using . . .

(or another specialized data base)
