TWO MAJOR PHYSIOGRAPHIC REGIONS IN INDA.THE TWO MAJOR HIMALAYAN RIVERS
ARE THE INDUS RIVER AND THE BRAHMAPUTRA RIVER.THESE RIVERS ARE LONG AND JOINED BY MANY LARGE AND IMPORTANT TRIBUTARIES.THE RIVERS OF
PENINSULAR RIVERS ARE MAHANADI BASIN,THE GODAVARIBASIN,THE KRISHNA
BASIN,THE NARMADA BASIN,THE TAPTI BASIN AND THE KAVERI BASIN.
HERE ARE SOME PICTURES OF GODAVARI BASIN:
1.The Godavari basin extends over states of Maharashtra, Andhra
Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha in addition to smaller parts in
Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Union territory of Puducherry
2.It has a total area of 3,12,812 Sq.km with a maximum length and
width of about 995 km and 583 km.
3.It lies between 73°24’ to 83°4’ east longitudes and 16°19’ to
22°34’ north latitudes and accounts for nearly 9.5% of the total geographical area of the
country.
The basin is bounded by Satmala hills, the Ajanta range and the
Mahadeo hills on the north, by the Eastern Ghats on the south and
the east and by the Western Ghats on the west.
