Without a goal in mind, trying to succeed in
doing anything is like setting out on a trip
with no idea of where you are going.
You will get somewhere but it may not be
where you want to be.
FOUR REASONS FOR SETTING GOALS:
1.If you don’t set your own goals, someone
else will set them for you.
2.All things need to be accomplish mentally
before you can accomplish them physically.
FOUR REASONS FOR SETTING GOALS:3.It is easier, cheaper, and faster to get things done when you know what you need to do.
Consider how difficult it would be to build a house without a blueprint.
4.It keeps you on target. In the words of Emerson “Man becomes what he
thinks about all day long.”
KEYS TO SUCCESSFUL GOALS PLANNING
THE “WHY” OF GOAL PLANNINGWritten – Write your goals down.
Harmonious - Make sure your goals are consistent with who you want to be
Yours – The goals you set should be what you want and need to do.
KEYS TO SUCCESSFUL GOALS PLANNING
When you write down your goals:1.It makes the goals more “real”.
2.It allows you to clarify what you mean.
3.You can better define rewards and consequences.
4.You won’t forget it or unintentionally change it.
5.You can keep on track as you review, refresh, and adjust your
goals and action steps based on changing circumstances.
KEYS TO SUCCESSFUL GOALS PLANNING
When your goals are harmonious with who you want to be:1.You are more likely to stick with the goal and action steps
because they reflect who you want to be.
2.You avoid personal conflicts that can distract or side track
your efforts to achieve your goals.
KEYS TO SUCCESSFUL GOALS PLANNING
When your goals are yours:1.You are more likely to become the person you want to be, because you decided who you are instead of trying to be the person someone else thinks you should be.2.When you achieve your goal you will have accomplished something that has meaning to you and brings you closer to being the person you want to be.3.As you get closer to being the person you want and need to be you will be better able to help those that are important to you.
