Welcome everyone, during this road show we plan to cover:
- What is the World Scout Jamboree - Costs and subsidy - Who we are - And finally, how to apply
The presentation should take no more than 30 minutes. We will remain afterwards to answer any other questions.
WHAT IS IT?
• The 23rd World Scout Jamboree is a gathering of over 30,000 Scouts and Guides
• Across 12 days everyone will participate in an exciting programme of global development, peace, cultural understanding, adventure, friendship and fun.

This is the 23rd World Scout Jamboree!

- The jamboree runs from Tuesday 28th July to Saturday 8th August 2015
The theme for the 23rd World Scout Jamboree is:
“Wa- A Spirit of Unity”
- “Wa” stands for harmony, unity, friendship and peace. - Wa also means ‘Japan’.

WHO ARE WE? Jane Pringle Scout Leader with 1st Malden since 2010 and a Cub Leader before then. Organised a lot of camps, ac8vi8es and events locally and on a larger scale as part of a District team.
David Ritson Assistant Scout Leader with the 3rd Carshalton Scout Troop. Since 1995 covered both Scout and Explorers. In this 8me been away on over 15 summer camps including 1 to the USA.
Shane Murphy Assistant Explorer Leader at Sealion ESU, a water based group, since 2009. This will be my 17th year involved in Scouts where I have aLended many interna8onal camps including the 21st World Scout Jamboree!
MaE CheyeEe Assistant Scout Leader at 1st Hook since 2005. I have par8cipated and organised camps home and abroad. Last year I completed my Queen scout award and Explorer belt.
Stuart Thompson Assistant Scout Leader at 1st Hook and ADC Scouts for Royal Kingston. Been involved in many interna8onal and home camps over the last 30 years!
Dominic Toloui Assistant Scout Leader at 1st Surbiton since 2007. I have organised mul8ple interna8onal camps. I haven’t missed a summer camp since 1997!

WHAT THE COSTS COVER…
The £2,995 Jamboree fee will cover: - Flights between the UK and Japan and transfers whilst in Japan. - The Jamboree at Kirara-hama, Yamaguchi City. - Mimasu Tokyo, The stay in Tokyo to immerse in the culture. - HoHo, The Home or Hosted hospitality. - All food, transportation and accommodation costs. - Travel insurance. - Kit. Branded Jamboree uniform that can be kept by the
individuals as mementos of their time in Japan. It does not cover any of the training or prepara8on ac8vi8es which par8cipants are expected to aLend.
PREPARATION
We would like participants to have a say in how the unit prepares for the Jamboree but to give you an idea of the time commitment there will be: • Team building activities • Training camps • Introduction to Japanese culture/food/language

HOW TO APPLY?
• The application process has changed this time – A single selection will run across GLSW
• It will be a 2 step process – Step 1: Application Form – Step 2: Selection Weekend
• Form can be found on the website – Application must be in by 28th September 2013 – Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted
– Paper copies only!
APPLICATION FORM
• Allow enough time to complete the form – Allow at least 1 week for your reference – Don’t forget to attach a photo – Remember forms need to be sent by post
• We are looking for participants: – Born between 28th July 1997 and 27th July 2001 – Able to attend the selection event on 12/13th October 2013 – Prepared to commit to training camps and other preparation events – Who are members of the Scout Association – Able to commit to the cost of the Jamboree
– Who will get the most out of the Jamboree • But not necessarily the 'best Scout’ with all the badges.
So sell yourself!
SELECTION WEEKEND
• If successful, candidates will be invited to a selection weekend – Will be informed by 5th October – On the 12th and 13th October 2013 – At Polyapes Scout Campsite – There will be no cost for this
• Successful candidates will be informed by 28th October – £100 deposit on acceptance
