Principal’s Message
Term 1 Week 10 31st March 2016
WE ARE PROUD TO ACKNOWLEDGE
ABORIGINAL
PEOPLE AS THE TRADITIONAL
OWNERS
OF THESE LANDS AND WATERS
Glenn Sansom
Principal
As this is the last Husky Star until after the holidays I’d like
to congratulate everybody for a fantastic term of hard work
and achievement. That includes students, teachers and
parents. It really has been a team effort. As Principal I have
to keep reminding those who compliment the school and
say what a great job I have done, that it has been a team
effort by the school community and that the efforts of
everybody has to be acknowledged and complimented.
Before the term ends we have a number of key events
happening.
LIFE EDUCATION VAN
The van visits our school every second year. They will be an
important introduction for units of work the students will do
next term with Mr Vidler and Mrs Brooks. The lessons focus
on developing sensible choices about leading a healthy and
productive life. Cost for Life Education is $5. The school has
subsidised the cost by $5 as we recognise the importance
of all students participating.
ANNUAL CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL
Next Wednesday at ‘Timber Hills’ Tomerong, Banksia,
Waratah and Boronia will compete against each other to
see who will be the winning house for 2016. Banksia has
held the champions trophy since 2012, so they’ll be looking
for their fifth win in a row. Ok Waratah and Boronia it’s up to
you to stop them! Cost for the day is $6. Parents are
welcome to join us on the day. There will be a canteen
running with hot food (pies and sausage rolls) on the day.
KUNG FU PANDA 3
The special showing for the school at the Huskisson
Picture Theatre is a great way to finish the term. Cost $10
Parents and younger siblings are certainly welcome to join
us. Friday 8th April at 11.30am. Payment for tickets is at
the school office.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU
A special thank you to Husky Bakery

P & C urgently require volunteers to fill the
following positions:
# Secretary
# Grants Co-ordinator
# Out of School Hours Committee Members
(preferably with a Childcare background)

the above, please contact our P & C

ETHICS CLASSES
As an alternative for our non-scripture students,
last year we finally reached our long term goal of
establishing Ethics Classes.
Unfortunately this year we have not yet been
successful in recruiting volunteers and as such,
the program has not been able to run.
If you or someone you know may be interested in
completing a 2 day training course and
volunteering 1 hour of your time on a Thursday
morning to teach our students ethics, please
contact our Ethics Co-ordinator Gabe Hart on
0413 623 383

13 years old children will run the 3 km course.
Parents and carers are more than welcome to attend
and support their children.
LIBRARY NEWS
ALL Library Books Due
Our library computer system is getting an upgrade to
OLIVER! This is exciting news for the librarians but it
means that we now have to prepare our collection for the
upgrade. To do this, we need ALL of our books returned
as soon as possible. Thanks for your help. Borrowing will
re-commence as usual next term. Thank you in advance!
Book Covering – A BIG THANK YOU:
Thank you to those who have volunteered their time to
learn about covering books for the library. The workshop
was a success and we now have a few qualified helpers
for this massive task. THANK YOU!
TOM Teams Camp-out in the Library
Skill in problem-solving and teamwork are great qualities
for our Tournament of Minders and today they were really
put to the test. Two teams were given a set of camping
gear and had to work together to put up their tent and set
out their camp. This was an exciting task which proved to
be a great challenge for some. Now that I know they can
set up a tent, I am sure I will see a few on our Saturday
night camp-out! Well done to the TOM teams!
Premier’s Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge is up and running and I
will be recording all of the class books that I have read to
students in the library. Please try to record books that are
read at home directly onto the PRC website. Students can
log in directly to the PRC website using their Department
of Education (DoE) username and password. These are
the same details a student would use to access
the Student Portal and the computer network at school. If
you are unaware of the username and/or password,
please contact the class teacher and ask for the Student
Portal username and/or password. The PRC website to is:
https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html
Until next week, happy reading and remember to bring
your books back to school on Tuesday or Wednesday so
that we can finalise our collection for the changeover to
OLIVER!
