1 Dates to Remember Dear Parents Lego Robotics Day is next Wednesday! This will be a big day for GPS. Mrs Colefax and Mrs France have been doing a superb job arranging all of the activities. As mentioned earlier, on the day there will be over 200 additional students in our school! Our thanks go out to all of the volunteers who have offered to help on the day – we really will be needing your help. A Special Message to all of our mums and dads who drive their children to school. On this day we will have a number of buses and cars that will be needing to ‘drop-off’ students early in the morning and and ‘pick them up’ in the afternoon. As many of the visitors are coming from a long way away and don’t know our area, we would really appreciate it if GPS parents keep the cordoned off area where cones are clear. 2019 Kindergarten Visits and Showcase Day – For some time now, we have had our 2019 kindergarten students coming to school for visits. On Thursday of this week, the kindergarten teachers, along with many of our students presented a showcase of aspects of the school in our hall. Dates to Remember

Dear Parents

Lego Robotics Day is next Wednesday!

The displays were superb and highlighted a number of our school’s attributes – well done to Mrs Jansen, Mrs Turner, Mrs Wursten, Mrs Leyte and Mrs Both – along with all of the assisting students.

Dancesport- On Thursday our Dancesport team, coached by Miss Simmonds went to compete in their competition at Cambridge Gardens. Thank you to all of the dancers involved for their efforts and to Miss Simmonds especially for sharing her talents and time to assist the students to compete.

Chalk Pastel Ostriches – My office is currently showing art from 4/5/6M – here are some of the brilliant chalk pastel ostriches the students created – thank you for your colourful art kids!

Have a good week

NEWS from 1H and 1G 1H and 1G have been participating in a daily fitness program, and are achieving exciting results! The program, inspired by the United Kingdom initiative The Daily Mile, makes children fitter, healthier, happier and has a positive impact on their behaviour and concentration levels. It is simple and effective, enabling every child to be active every day.

Our students are jogging or running with their classmates in the safety of their own playground every day for 10-15 minutes. Everyone has fun taking part while building relationships, confidence and resilience. This can be summed up in the Five F’s: 1. Fitness — children become more aware of a healthy lifestyle 2. Fresh air — children thrive on the sights, sounds and seasons 3. Friends — children use the language of friendship to support each other, improving their social and leadership skills 4. Fun — children enjoy taking part 5. Focus — daily physical activity helps children concentrate in the classroom and is proven to raise attainment Some of our beep test results

I just wanted to say a special thank you to everyone at GPS for their support with Elise’s cupcake stall and mufti day held on Friday 26th October. Thanks to the generosity of you all, we raised $740 ($535 mufti day donations & $205 from the cupcake stall) for the Children’s Medical Research Institution at Westmead Children’s hospital which has been already been donated through Elise’s Great Cycle Challenge fundraising page.

This October she has ridden 79 kilometres on her bike and raised $1,256 that will aid in research and treatments into childhood cancer. This has been an amazing effort and we could not be more proud of her

Brendan Pearce (Elise’s father).

Shave for a Cure – Teegan Stoneman 3S

Teegan Stoneman from 3S bravely decided that she was going to cut her hair to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation. She participated in the fundraising event ‘Shave for a Cure’. On Saturday, October 27, in front of a large crowd at the ‘Relay for Life’ event in Blacktown, Teegan had 35cm of her hair cut off. She raised $1005.00 for the Leukaemia Foundation and would like to thank everyone for their support. Teegan has decided that she is going to donate her hair so that it can be turned into wigs for cancer patients. Congratulations Teegan on an excellent effort to raise money for this wonderful charity.

Term 4 Week 3 Whole School Bounce Back Program Focus for this week: Looking on the Bright Side

Key messages to communicate to your child about being optimistic:

It’s important to stay hopeful when you have unhappy times. You will get over unhappy times in your life more easily if you stay hopeful that good things will happen again and the difficult parts will get better. If you stay hopeful then you don’t give up. What can you do to help your child look on the bright side? Let your child see and hear you showing gratitude, saying ‘things will get better soon’ and expecting that good outcomes are possible.

The Student Eyecare Program will be running from Monday 12th November.

An optometrist will be onsite during school hours to provide students with a free comprehensive eye examination that is covered through Medicare Australia.

Every student will receive a full report about their eye health and a prescription will be provided if glasses are required. The prescription can be taken to any optical store to get the glasses made.

Yellow notes for permission will be sent out on Thursday 1st November, please indicate yes or no and return the note to the classroom teacher.
