NSW. 2761 Ph: 9832 8555 Fax: 98329724 E: [email protected] Dear parents, The Swimming Carnival will have been run by the time that you read this newsletter. I would like to thank all students who attended the day and all parents who went along to watch. Special appreciation goes to our teachers and especially to Miss Pillen for her organisation of the day. I trust all students enjoyed themselves – whether participating in competitive or novelty events. A reminder to all students who are non-swimmers that when the learn-to-swim activity is advertised, they should do their very best to enrol and learn this valuable skill. Visual Arts Day – Our visual arts fun day was held on Tuesday. It was really satisfying to see the students involved and the fantastic, creative artwork they were creating. Thank you to Mrs Suri for her organisation of the day. Sports Uniform and black shoes – With the beginning of the Live Life Well program at school, we have started daily fitness sessions. These are currently held in the morning session. Students are allowed to wear joggers when they go outside for daily fitness. The school uniform code relating to school shoes will still indicate black shoes and students are expected to wear black shoes. They can wear black joggers or they can do daily fitness in their black school shoes (or they can change into their joggers and change back after daily fitness). P&C Meeting – Our first P&C meeting for 2015 and our P&C AGM was held on Monday evening. Thank you to all of the outgoing executive members for all that they have done and welcome to the incoming ones. The 2015 P&C consists of : President – Mrs Kember; Vice-Presidents – Mrs Flaxman and Mr Collenette; Secretary- Mrs Clark; Treasurer – Mrs Aquilina; Fund-Raising Coordinator – Mrs Estall; Uniform Coordinator – Mrs Clark. Two items of interest included school banking – which will begin this Friday and a newly-created Glendenning PS P&C Association facebook page. It is good to know that the P&C Association has a facebook page and that the Glendenning PS Parents facebook page is still active. The use of facebook pages – when operating cooperatively with a school website/APP can greatly enhance the reputation of the students, parents and staff of a school, whilst generating a flow of information and support for parents and students alike. Skoolbag App – Section Kool Kontent - Parents are asked to note that the App company creates the various ‘labels’ on this App. GPS is responsible for putting the letters and reminders on the site. Parents are asked to understand that whilst matters like spelling school as ‘skool’ may be an annoying sign, we cannot change this setup, but will alert the company to the fact that parents are finding it off-putting. Playgroup will commence again on next Monday, February 23, at 2.00pm in the multi-purpose room (next to Room 20). Please sign on at the office and then make your way up to the playgroup room. All welcome! If you know of any residents in the Glendenning area with young children (especially those who don’t have children already at school), please encourage them to come along. Have a great week, D Meaney Principal

Dear parents,

The Swimming Carnival will have been run by the time that you read this newsletter.

Have a great week,

Area Specific Rules – Hall

This week, students have learnt about the area specific rules of the hall. Please ask your child how they can be Safe, Respectful Learners in this area.

‘Caught you Being’ Token Winners

Well done to Alana Cassar of class 5F who was caught being a LEARNER! Also well done to Divya Louis from 1/2H for being RESPECTFUL by “always being polite and using manners at home”. A special thank you to the Banking Ladies who donated some more prizes for our raffle!

‘Caught You Being’ @ HOME Tokens

In the same way that teachers reward and acknowledge positive behaviour of students, we invite parents/carers to follow the same process at home. We encourage the common language of Safe, Respectful Learners, both at home and at school. This consistency promotes an understanding that our school values are not limited to our school grounds.

We ask that when you see your child demonstrating a positive behaviour, (e.g. tidying their room without being asked), reward your child with a token, and explain that they were being SAFE by making their room clean and tidy. Please tick the value/s, and write their name, class, a few words explaining why you rewarded them and your signature, and place in the special jar in the front office. Each week (Monday at 9am), one token will be drawn and the winner will be included in the PBL newsletter page. Please note: by placing the tokens into the box, you give permission for your child’s name, class, a small photo and the parent’s reason to be published in the newsletter.

The PBL Team welcomes all feedback – please contact a member to share your thoughts.

The Tell Them From Me student feedback survey

I am delighted that this term, our school, like many others in the state, will participate in a Department of Education and Communities initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey aims to help improve student learning outcomes and measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide our school with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help improve how they do things at school.

I want to assure you that the survey is confidential and school staff will not be able to identify individual students from their responses. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 9 March and 2 April. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.

A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with students. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by Friday 27 February. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from the website above.

Tell Them From Me Student Feedback Survey

If you do not want your child to participate in the student feedback survey, please sign this form and return it to your school by Friday 27 February 2015.
