A screenshot• Captures a picture of your computer monitor screen.• Can be used to create a simple instruction manual by

inserting the screenshots in a document.• Can also be attached to an email message.• Of the entire desktop can be captured by using the

Print Screen key.• Is then copied to the clipboard.

Skill 1: Take a Screenshot

• Close any open windows to clear your desktop.• Press the Print Screen key to copy a screenshot, or image, of the desktop.• Click the Start button.• Click All Programs.• Click Accessories.• Click WordPad to open the program.• Click the WordPad tab.• Click Page setup.• Click the Landscape option in the Orientation section of the Page Setup

dialog box.• Click OK to close the Page Setup dialog box.• Click the Paste button in the Clipboard group on the Home tab to paste

the screenshot of your desktop into the document.• Close the document.

Using the Paint Program If you want to edit a screenshot, you can paste the

screenshot in an image editing program, such as the Paint program.

Skill 2: Use the Snipping Tool

• Click the Start button.• Click All Programs and Accessories. • Click Snipping Tool in the list of applications. The screen dims and

the Snipping Tool window appears.• Position the mouse pointer on the top-left corner of the Taskbar.• Press and hold the left mouse button and then drag your mouse to

the lower-right corner of the Taskbar. The selected area is surrounded by a red border.

• Release the left mouse button to display the screenshot in the Snipping Tool window.

• Click the Copy button to copy the screenshot to the Clipboard. • Click the Start button and then click WordPad.

• Click the Paste button in the Clipboard group on the Home tab to paste the Taskbar screenshot into the document.

• Press the Enter key and then type, This screenshot of the Taskbar was created using the Snipping Tool.

• Close the WordPad document.• Click the Don’t Save button to close the WordPad window without saving the

document.• Click the Close button in the upper-right corner of the Snipping Tool window.• In the warning box asking if you want to save changes to the snip, click No.• Start OneNote.• Click the Introduction Toolkit tab.• Click a blank area of the page and then click the Paste button in the Clipboard

group on the Home tab to paste the screenshot of the Taskbar on the OneNote page.

• Type The Windows Taskbar and close OneNote.

Learning More about the SnippingTool When you capture screenshots withthe Snipping Tool, you can save them in a variety of common graphic file formats,
