The Lions Club are donating all the profits to our school. Our goal at the moment is to purchase more iPads for the children to work with. Thank you Maitland Lions Club. Our P&C are also fundraising. The canteen volunteers keep the canteen open every day, with a special meal deal day that keeps the menu interesting. They have extended the Cookie Dough Fundraiser extended until the 10 May. Please support our P&C. Well done to all our children who have been representing us at the next level of sport. We have had swimming reps, cross country reps, students trying out for football and netball. At all of these events, I have received positive feedback about behaviour, sportsmanship and effort. It’s fabulous to hear other schools talking about the wonderful students we have here at Gillieston. Congratulations to Tyler who will now represent Maitland Zone at the Regional Cross County Carnival. Our staff at Gillieston work very hard to teach and support student learning, but also to continually improve our own education. Last week, we started a course about supporting students to improve their behaviour, led by Mrs Nowland, AP Learning and Support. This was three hours after a school day, last Wednesday, with homework afterwards. We then have two more three hour sessions after school next term. I would like to acknowledge and thank all the staff for their commitment and dedication to the students at Gillieston Public School. Congratulations to Mrs Main. We have had amazing reviews about our school PBL processes by the Department of Education’s PBL team. Mrs Main as our PBL champion, was selected to present our PBL journey to other schools. I received an email saying, “Her presentation today was a tremendous hit. She spoke eloquently, passionately and with complete knowledge of your systems and practises. All of the schools were able to take away the clear message that PBL works best when schools adopt change slowly and consider points of view from all stakeholders.” 1

DaVINCI & BENNETT

This week The Bennett’s and the Da Vinci’s were fortunateto have Mr Newham visit from Rutherford Technology HighSchool. Mr Newham runs the targeted sports program at RTHSfor students who show interest and talent in football (soccer). He enjoys getting out to the primary schools to meet thestudents and give them an understanding of some of the thingsthey might be doing when they go to high school. He alwaysbrings some current students along with him to help run thedrills and games. This time we were fortunate enough to haveCallan Fry (you might recognise that last name!), it waswonderful to have Callan help out. The students really enjoyedthe drills and games and showed their appreciation to MrNewham through their respectful behaviour.

FRANKLIN

The Franklin’s have been very excited looking out of the windowand seeing the construction that is happening on the newclassroom. This prompted the students to write a about thefence and what the fence was for. In Art, The students’ havereally enjoyed using water based paints to interpret their ownmaster piece. We are being inspired by the famous Vincent VanGough. I am looking forward to Harmony Day and seeing all thestudents participating in the Easter hat parade. Have a safe andhappy holidays. See you all next term.
