It's the ultimate cosmetic surgery packagefor mums desperate to get their pre-baby.body back - and it's causinq quite a stir

FORthe woman who

has everything ~including two kids, exhaustion and asagging figure -comes California's

new must-have cosmeticsurgery': The Mummy Job.

It's the breast lift/tummytuck/liposuction combo thatpromises to give mothers backtheir pre-pregnancy figures - andit's coming to Britain.

Celebrity mums from KatieHolmes to Emma Bunton havesuccessfully regained their formertaut, trim figures naturally withinweeks of giving birth, making itseem so easy.

But as most mothers who havestruggled with breast feeding, sleepless nights and endlessnappy changes know too. well, getting back in any shape thatdoesn't resemble a Tellytubby isarduous, if not impossible, toil.

Recovery is largely determinedby genetics and body type and,for most women, postpartumslackened breasts, stretch marksand redistributed body fat arefacts of life. Now surgeons arepromising to turn back the clock.

"Twenty years ago a woman didnot think she could do something

'My makeoverwas amazing- I could. notbe happier'

about it and she covered up," saysplastic surgeon Dr David Stoker."But now women don't have to goon feeling self-conscious orresentful about their appearance."

The Mummy Job is anincreasingly popular way formothers to overhaul their bodies. The package offers breast lifts, reduction or implants; tummytucks or reshaping; andliposuction of the thighs. A snipat around £7,500.

There are huge pressures onmothers to shape up. Women'smagazines overflow with starsrebounding quickly fromchildbirth - like singer GwenStefani and actress GwynethPaltrow - even though most haveprivate trainers, home gyms, several hours a day to work outand personal chefs makingcalorie-controlled meals.

Pregnancy changes that usedto be considered normal areincreasingly viewed as disfiguring.

. Cosmetic surgery is also moreadvanced and cheaper. The result:The Mummy Job - and manymums are delighted.

Mother-of-three Julie Downs,38, of Los Angeles, says: "I wantedto take back the effects of child-bearing. I didn't know whatpregnancy would do to my bodyand now it's almost completely

a facelift and says: "Now I lookfantastic in a bathing suit andfeel pretty." .

Katie Helein, 37, worked outthree times a week for eightmonths after her second-pregnancy in 2000 but could notregain her shape. "I had .badlystretched skin, I lost fullness uptop and nothing was where itwas supposed to be," shesays. "I just wanted mybody back."

Hers was just one of325,000 "mummymakeover procedures"performed- in America lastyear. And it's not just newmums going under the knife.Sharlotte Birkland, 39, a nursefrom Sacramento, California, had her son 20 years ago and aMummy Job in March.

"I had a pouch of fat on myabdomen that I couldn't get ridof," she says. "I was slender buthad stretch marks on mybreasts, tummy, thighs, evenmy calves. I was embarrassed.

"My makeover was amazing.I couldn't be happier. Childrenare worth every one of thosestretch marks but I'm delightedI can wear a swimsuit again.I'wish I'd done it years ago."

While the Mummy Job boastsnumerous satisfied clients, many women object to theway it stigmatises pregnancy.

"Some women go back toa flat stomach and somedon't. Some go back to theirpre-baby weight and somedon't," said Judy Norsigian, director of health group OurBodies Ourselves in Boston."The question is, does thatneed to be treated with asurgical makeover?"

Plastic surgeon Dr HarlanPollock, of Dallas, Texas, cautions that the MummyJob could encouragewomen to have unneededsurgery. "A woman seekingatummytuck, althQughnot particularly concernedabout the appearance ofher breasts, may beinfluenced to have breastsurgery because it is partof the package," he says.

SOCIOLOGIST BenitaRoth, of BinghamtonUniversity New York,

says: "Raising beauty standardstoward the increasingly unreal isa never-ending process. It setsup an unreachable standard towhich most women can't aspire. The ones who benefit are plasticsurgeons .

"And how is childbirthinflicting severe physicaltrauma? Pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeedingare things the vast majorityof the world's women do.In fact, they are among thethings that a woman'sbody is supposecfto do."
