Double Frequency

All 2011, 912, 913, 914, 2012, 1013, 1015, 616 and 620 genset engines are available in double frequency spe-cification. On 2012, 1013, 1015 the electronic governor (EMR) is required. An electronic governor is standard for 616/620 engines for genset applications. The double frequency engines fulfill EPA I/II (60 Hz) and TA-Luft 4000 (50 Hz) exhaust emission standards.

Gen Motor 5 Electronic Governor

System description

Utilization of the EMR2The electronic engine governor (EMR2) serves to control the speed of the DEUTZ series 1012, 1013, 1015,616 and 620 for applications in agricultural and construction machinery as well as in generating sets. It is de-signed for heavy-duty use in tough operating conditions and has been assigned with the corresponding protec-tion classes. The governor fulfils all of the functions of the mechanical governor (variable speed governing, torque limitati-ons, LDA function) and additionally provides further functions.

System overviewThe main components of the EMR2 are the sensors, the control unit and the actuator.Engine-side and genset-side equipment is connected to the EMR2 control unit via separate, prefabricated wi-ring harnesses. The system-side wiring is installed by the system manufacturer. The engine and installation-side equipment is shown in the following graphic.

Gen Motor 5 Electronic Governor

Genset applicationWhen using diesel engines with EMR 2 in gensets, the customer is provided with the following advantages:

● Standard settings can be used. As a result of this, the engine with EMR 2 is completely programmedat the end of line (all components from a single source).

● Special settings can be subsequently implemented via ISO 9141 (e.g. via on-site personnel).

● Switchover from fixed speed of 1500 to 1800 rpm (double-frequency possible).

● In engines with variable speed, oil pressure control is carried out depending on the speed.

● Better load uptake due to better dynamic control behaviour; high control quality (speed droop, correction time).

● Isochronous and speed droop mode possible (speed droop can be set from 0 to 50 %).

● High frequency and speed stability.

● Speed control / load distribution via externally specified voltage.

● Reduction of smoke on starting.

● Reduction of wear.

● High engine availability / low engine down-time.

● High level of operating comfort.

● Reduction of total costs in comparison with mechanical and add-on solutions.

● High environmental compatibility, minimisation of pollutants.

● Gensets can be networked via CAN bus and display.

● Reduction of spare parts / warehousing costs.

● High level of cost-effectiveness.

● Digital inputs for interfacing with PLC (programmable logic control) systems for synchronisation andload sharing.

Gen Motor 5 Electronic Governor

Fixed speed governor (single-frequency genset)This governor configuration can be used in the case of an engine in isolated operation or a master genset. Inthis case, the speed is kept constant regardless of the load. The firmly set speed may lie within the range bet-ween idle speed and rated speed (e.g. n1 = 1500 rpm or n2 = 1800 rpm or n3 = 2400 rpm). The engine is alwaysdelivered with one set speed only.

Governor with switchover between speed 1 and 2 (double-frequency genset)This governor function can be used in the case of an engine in isolated operation or a master genset. Thespeed is kept constant regardless of the load. However, switchover between two speeds such as, e.g. 1500rpm and 1800 rpm may be carried out.

Gen Motor 5 Electronic Governor

Governor for mains synchronisation or load distributionThis governor configuration can be used in the case of an engine in isolated or parallel operation. This confi-guration may also be used in the case of several engines in mains parallel or isolated parallel operation (mul-tiple engine system).

Depending on the application, a switch must be made to the variable speed or the fixed speed. The fixed speedmay be 1500 rpm or 1800 rpm or 2400 rpm whereby, however, only one fixed speed is available (cannot beswitched between 2 fixed speeds).
