Friuli Grave is considered to be among the world’s greatest wine producing regions. The transformation of Gelisi’s grapes into incredible wine benefit by growing on an elevated plain in a climate sheltered by the Alps while being nurtured by the warm winds of the Adriatic Sea.

Gelisi Antonio’s vineyards are planted among stones that absorb the day’s sunshine and release heat during the night keeping climatic conditions constant and protracting the vintage period. The accumulated heat ensures that the vines yield grapes with a higher sugar content and more intense aromas and fragrances, making the wines truly unique.

Sergio Gelisi’s farm rests in the Pordenone DOC zone which extends across the western half of Friuli Venezia Giulia

During the post WWII years, the national body Tre Venezie constituted in Villotte of San Quirino, 59 estates to be assigned to the same number of Istrian families that lost everything in their beloved Istria. Two of these estates belong to the Gelisi family. They are completely planted with vines mostly grown with guyot system.

San Quirino The Villa of the Cattaneo is a sixteenth-century parish church considered to be the most splendid architectural building of the area. It was built in 1600 in the town center and has an important facade with four unique mullioned windows set one upon the other. True to his love for his new homeland, every bottle of Gelisi Antonio symbolizes the Villa Cattaneo on its label.

Sergio Gelisi is the owner of Gelisi Antonio vineyards and grew up working with his father and the wine’s namesake, Antonio, who still mentors Sergio. Sergio’s sister, Roberta, manages the vineyard’s business operations.

silky finish”

Ideal accompaniment to white meats and grilled fish, cream sauces, and rice courses

The warm winds from the Adriatic Sea are trapped by the Southern Alps creating a Grave, or

“rocky” soil. This challenges Sergio Gelisi to balance the pervasive acidity in this soil to

produce a crisp, light-bodied refreshing wine.

Sergio Gelisi handpicks only the ripest Merlot grapes from his farm in Northeastern Italy. Since it’s fermented and aged in stainless steel vats, this

D.O.C. Merlot is medium-bodied without the “oakiness” common with Californian Merlots. The pleasingly long, smooth, and a bit spicy aftertaste

captures the essence of the Friuli region.

The “Blood of Judas” comes from the little-known northern Italian region of Oltrepò

Pavese in Lombardy. Its name recalls Judas, the 13th apostle who betrayed Jesus. Legend has it that the name was given by Friars who

disapproved of its stimulating and aphrodisiac effects.
