GATES SPACER TOOL INSTRUCTIONS

It is critical to ensure the correct clearance is achieved between the timing belt guide plate and the timing belt, as incorrect clearance can cause extreme heat, premature component failure and engine damage.

The Gates Spacer Tool has been provided in this kit to help you ensure the correct clearance is achieved. Please follow the instructions below.

USER INSTRUCTIONS1. Install timing belt per vehicle manufacturer’s procedure.

2. When installing timing belt guide, loosely tightening the guide plate bolts by hand.

3. Insert the Gates Spacer Tool in-between the belt and the guide plate.

4. Ensure that the Gates Spacer Tool is positioned directly below the guide plate, and covering the full width of the Timing Belt (see Diagram 1).

5. Tighten the guide plate bolts to the recommended specifications.

6. Remove the Gates Spacer Tool.
