Diamond Drill

PURPOSE:

Pre-Practice Drill Designed to teach RunningBacks how to bring defenders to

blockers with patience and create space for themselves. Used to set up blocks

and react to vision keys.

TEMPO:

FullORGANIZATION/SET-UP:

Partner up forming a triangle 5yards apart from each other (6 People). Player

facing ball carrier give direction when running back is a yard away from

blocker. Player with back to ball carrier hopes not to get run over.

COACHING POINTS:

1. Step to side of defender, plant and accelerate opposite2. Stay tight to blockers, (Hug the Blockers)

3. Read block do not guess

4. Immediately after last cut get north now.

5. Be patient

Come to Balance Drill

PURPOSE: Inside zone drill designed to teach Running Backs how to

exhibit patience, come to balance, and work laterally along line to find an

opening

TEMPO: Full

ORGANIZATION/SET-UP: 2 Half-Moons 7 cones -3 in between half-moons

2 outside on both sides wide enough for a ball carrier to run through it

COACHING POINTS:

1. Press heels of line of scrimmage2. Come to balance with great pad level

3. Small shuffles laterally along line of scrimmage

4. Keep shoulders square to line of scrimmage

Outside Reaction Cut Drill

PURPOSE: Outside Zone Drill designed to teach Running Backs how toreact and cut off blocks on end man on LOS, to second man on LOS

TEMPO: Full

ORGANIZATION/SET-UP: Put two players on defensive side with 1 being

End Man on LOS and the 2nd being next inside down lineman. Coach will

stand in front of the defensive players about 10 yards deep and givecommands to the Defensive guys. 1. both defensive guys sit (Running

back bounce). 2. Stretch the Defensive End and have the Tackle sit

(Running back Break). 3. Stretch both defensive guys (Running back

bends back underneath both Defensive guys).

COACHING POINTS:

1. Read your block- Do not guess (Bounce, Break, or Bend).2. Keep shoulders Parallel and eyes on End Man on LOS to DT

3. Be patient

4. Finish the Run Drill On the Bounce Read. Add Running back with hand

held shields aligned 5 yards apart about 2 to 3 yards from the sideline.

Have ball carrier get to sideline turn up and run through defenders

dipping inside shoulder and ripping through defenders with shields.
