DEFENSIVE BACK PLAY

STANCE

1. Inside Foot Back and both feet are perpendicular to the LOS.2. Feet are slightly less than shoulder width apart.3. 75% of weight on the front foot.4. Ankles, knees, and hips are flexed.5. Back flat.6. Eyes up.7. Nose over your toes.8. Body is Relaxed.9. Arms are flexed at a 90 degree bend.

BACKPEDAL1. Keep your feet underneath you at all times.2. Short Quick Steps.3. Feet should remain less than shoulder width apart.4. Arms remain bent at 90 degrees.5. Arm action is the throwing back of your elbow.6. Body should remain relaxed.7. Head should remain motionless.8. Weave with the receivers release keeping you shoulders square to the LOS.

ZONE PRINCIPLES

1. Know center point of landmark.2. Stay on Top of all routes.3. Read QB for all throws. 4. On option/ screens know if you can trigger.

This is a re – route, you are not getting off a block.

Use your footwork and hand placement to make sure you don’t close your hips.
