Situated in a heathland and woodland setting just 1mile from the centre of the historic city of York, Fulford Golf Club remains one of the best inland golf courses in Britain. A record twenty three consecutive European Tour events Tony Jacklin winner of The Benson & Hedges 1973 in the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s firmly put Fulford on the global golfing map with the worlds leading golfers Jack Newton winner of the Benson and Hedges 1972 competing in, and many of them winning, one of the
leading professional Tournaments on the International and European Tour. Enjoy the challenge of a course that has tested some of the world’s finest golfers over the years and experience our own particular brand of Yorkshire hospitality. HISTORY
Originally founded in 1906 by Major W.H. Key at Water Fulford Hall, the Golf Club moved to its current site in 1935, after the land was identified as suitable for golf development, by leading architect and five times Open Champion, James Braid.
The course was planned and constructed by Major Charles McKenzie, the brother and business partner of the now legendary Dr Alistair McKenzie who designed Augusta National and Cypress Point.
The course and club house remain very similar to the original construction in 1935, however additional length added to the course over the years, and extensions and improvements to the clubhouse now provide the club with an historic feel which meets the demands of the modern day golfer.

TOURNAMENTS
Fulford Golf Club boasts a great championship tradition, and has hosted many major amateur and leading Professional events over the years.
The first leading amateur event was staged in 1954 when Fulford was asked to stage the Yorkshire County Championships. Since that date Fulford remains ‘on the rota’ for staging amateur championships and internationals.
Professional Golf started at Fulford in 1971, when the Benson and Hedges tournament was founded. Tony Jacklin won that inaugural event and led the way for a host of leading professionals from around the world to play and win during the 23 years of European Tour events staged at the club. Please see the Honours Board for a list of winners at the club, however the list of those who regularly competed and came close to winning is just as impressive. Major winners Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Johnny Miller, Ian Woosnam, Bernhard Langer, Gary Player, Sam Snead and Jose-Maria Olazabal all played a major part in the history of the tournaments at Fulford.

TOURNAMENTS CONTINUED
One the most enduring images in golf must be Bernhard Langer clambering up the ash tree on the 17th hole at Fulford to play his third shot to the green. To this day the shot is marked by a plaque on that same tree.
Ian Woosnam, on his way to securing runner up position to Sandy Lyle recorded and still holds the course record with an impressive 10under par 62. This includes a European Tour record 8 consecutive birdies.
The Benson & Hedges International was screen on the BBC and around the world, and was later replaced by the Murphy’s Cup. Major tournament golf left Fulford in 1992, when the European Tour had no option but to follow the ‘lure of the sponsors pound’ and the Benson & Hedges was staged at the Belfry among others.
Fulford remains a Professional Tournament venue, frequently hosting National and Regional PGA Events.
In 2006, to celebrate the clubs Centenary Year, the 18 holes on the course were named after the winners of the Benson and Hedges Tournament.

THE COURSE
The course is regarded as one of the finest tests of inland golf, and is frequently graded in the Top 100 courses. Built on predominantly sandy heathland the course sustains an excellent surface all year round for golf.
The course is flat and tree lined with heather and well placed bunkers providing the hazards. A reflection of the standard of the course is that the par is 72, (6864yards) with a standard scratch score of 74 from the Championship markers, a good challenge for all golfers.

THE CLUB HOUSE The club house has been extended and modernised through the years to provide members and guests with bar, dining, meeting, snooker and changing facilities to meet their requirements. The well stocked bar, famous for its excellent hand pulled John Smiths is found in the lounge area. A separate bar facility can also be used. The dining room is busy, and chef will provide a varied menu to suit all. Snacks, ‘bar meals’ and dinner menus are all available. Many members use the facilities to entertain guests and celebrate special occasions throughout the year. The Langer Room, upstairs, can be used for private dining or meetings. The room can be set up in ‘board room’ or ‘theatre’ style and can accommodate up to 45 people. Many of our corporate guests use the room for a meeting in the morning then take lunch prior to tackling the golf course in the afternoon. Package details are available on request. MEMBERSHIP As one of the leading clubs in the North of England, Membership at Fulford is very popular. Our thriving, Junior, Ladies and Gentlemen’s membership enjoys a full program of competitions throughout the year. Fulford is very proud of the Social aspect to the club membership with well supported social functions running throughout the year. Juniors - a structured program of development is in place for juniors to reach their full potential. Ladies - this keen social and competitive section of the membership enjoys competition at weekend and on a Tuesday morning. A range of handicaps from beginners to team representatives. Gents – always very popular, the newly rated standard scratch score has attracted many good golfers over recent years. A full program of competitions for golfers of all abilities throughout the year, and a representative teams in York and Yorkshire events. LOCATION
Ideally located off the A19, just East of the A64 and within easy reach of the M62, A1 and M1 Fulford is a convenient for visitors from all over the UK. York City centre is just 1 ½ miles from the club, as is York Railway Station.
York provides a multitude of attractions and is the ideal location for golfers and non golfers alike.

Many of your groups build a package to include food, and rates are available for the day and round. Rates change throughout the season.
