During the entire period of this seminar my seminar would not

have been materiali%ed without the help of many people who made

my work so easier.

&t gives me proud privilege to complete this seminar working

“Vehicle Recycling” under valuable guidance of Prof . P4 -4 1a*

& am Also Thankful to Prof4 R4M Naf*e5 +ea* of Automo!ile

2ngineering e,artment ' all sta( members for providing all

facilities and every help for smooth progress of seminar work.

& would also like to thanks to all sta( member of Automobile

Department and not but the least my friends for timely help and

encouragement of fulllment of seminar work.

Each year more than 76 million vehicles reach the end of their

service life throughout the world. ore than 57: of these vehicles

enter a comprehensive recycling infrastructure that includes auto parts

recyclers;dismantlers remanufacturers and material recyclers

#shredders$. Today about 37: of automotive materials are protably

recycled via

#)$ Parts reuse and parts and components remanufacturing and

#,$ <ltimately by the scrap processing #shredding$ industry.

The process by which the scrap processors recover metal scrapfrom automobiles involves shredding the obsolete automobiles along

with other obsolete metal=containing products #such as white goods

industrial scrap and demolition debris$ and recovering the metals

from the shredded material. The single largest source of recycled

ferrous scrap for the iron and steel industry is obsolete automobiles.

The non=metallic fraction that remains after the metals are recovered

from the shredded materials #about ,7: of the weight of the vehicle$

> commonly called shredder residue > is disposed of in landlls.

2ver the past )6 to )7 years a signicant amount of research and

development has been undertaken to enhance the recycle rate of end=

of=life vehicles #E1*s$ including enhancing dismantling techni?ues and

improving remanufacturing operations. @owever most of the e(ort has

focused on developing technology to recover materials such as

polymers from shredder residue.

*ehicle +ecycling is a process based on three main principle

which may be dened as follow"

4 Reuse means any operation by which components of end=of life

vehicles are used for the same purpose for which they were

conceived

<4 Recycling means the reprocessing in a production process of

the waste materials for the original purpose or for other purposes

but ecluding energy recovery.

4 Recovery means a suitable process for ensuring that waste is

recovered without endangering human health and without the

use of processes or methods likely to harm the environment.

+egeneration of acids is an eample of a recovery operation.
