W ord on the street in Minnedosa and possibly even more so in a neighbouring community
strongly indicate that Minnedosa Campground has
been sold to a private owner. own o Minnedosa CAO,Ken Jenkins, conf rmed uesday, this is absolutely alse. He also assured that statements indicating that
the soccer felds at the beach are being redeveloped orcottages and that proceeds rom the rumoured sale o the campground will und MREC are also alse.
In 2008, own Council decided to market theMinnedosa Campground and Cottage Developmentor sale. Te decision was based on a number o ac-
tors, some o which were that Council did not eel amunicipal corporation should be involved in a com-mercial venture such as the campground, the sale
o the property would ree up time and duties o theown’s Public Works sta which would allow them toocus on other areas within the community and that
i sold, the campground property would become tax-able and increase Minnedosa’s tax base. Currently, asa own owned property, the campground is exempt
rom taxation.Council directed CAO Jenkins to work through theprocess to prepare the property or sale, such as the
needed surveys, subdivisions, etc. Tis process hasbeen ongoing or some time and is nearing comple-tion. Once complete, the property can be advertised
requesting proposals rom interested parties. Jenkinsconfrmed that several parties have already indicatedinterest in purchasing the property. Tose interested
parties will have to ollow strict protocol through aproposal call. Following the deadline o the proposalcall, members o Council will review the proposals and
make the fnal decision whether or not they eel thereis a strong proposal in which they are comortable inaccepting.
I and when the campground is sold, it will be atCouncil’s decision. Te monies rom such a transac-tion would be used to assist the own in land devel-
opment projects to support the own’s plan to addressMinnedosa’s housing shortage.
