Some thoughts from Fr. Mike…

Dear Friends, Once more we are reminded of the Baptism of our

Lord that was the start of his public earthly ministry. It

began his mission of gathering all people into the one

family of God and leading them back to the Father.

which he left his private life in Nazareth and began his

public ministry. Jesus went about doing good,

touching human lives, healing people, freeing them

from the darkness of sin and directing them to lives

worthy of their calling and status of God’s children.

We must allow ourselves to remember that all of us are

called to continue the saving work of Jesus. At the

time of our own Baptism, the seed of God’s life was

planted within us. That grace-filled day was only the

start of our own conversion. It takes a lifetime for that

seed of God’s love to grow, mature and blossom. The

only home for a Christian to live in is Christ and we

should never settle for anything less. If we are to truly

enter into and fully appreciate the exciting experience

of part of God’s family, we must have a clear idea of

what kind of family we are meant to be. To follow the

way that was traced out by Jesus demands a loving

personal response on our part. Baptism is a dedication

of self to the call of Jesus who went about doing good

things.

If we are to live out our true Baptismal calling, we

must be willing and ready to evaluate the extent to

which Christ has penetrated our thoughts and

influenced our behavior. We must evaluate our every

action to determine if it is what is expected of someone

who is a member of God’s family. We must be

unwilling to justify any personal behavior that does not

measure up to the example given to us by Jesus. This

is not so that we can beat ourselves up or weigh

ourselves down with guilt, but so that we may be open

to the transforming light of Christ. When we justify

actions that are contrary to God’s way, we make the

statement that we do not need or want the light of

Christ to guide us. When we justify our actions that

are in opposition to our true calling, we assist the

growth of evil. Yet, God does not abandon us but

instead, offers us the way back. Let us remember, the

example we display in our everyday lives paves the

way for Christ to be experienced by others. Let us

never give up our pursuing our call to be children of

the light. Peace and prayers,

Fr. Mike
