  • SUUBI CHILDRENS VILLAGE

Watoto is not an orphanage in the traditional sense. Real homes are built to cater for children who have lost their family or are vulnerable for many reasons.

Watoto homes are constructed in the form of small, vibrant communities we refer to as villages. The houses are positioned in clusters with all the essentials of any basic home.

Each village contains a nursery school, kindergarten, primary school, high school, vocational training centre, water project, medical clinic and a multi-purpose hall for use as a church and community centre. The villages provide safe and open outdoor spaces with beautiful vegetation and plenty of space to live and play.

Watoto currently runs three villages in Uganda, at Bbira and Suubi in Kampala, and Laminadera in Gulu.

  • WATOTO LUUBEFARM

The 220 acre farm has a great opportunity for Watoto to become more sustainable and provide a good model for a world-class agricultural business in the country that many can learn from. The ability to supply the foods needed for the Watoto villages as well as sell to the local market

In 2014, we cut the number of vegetable types grown on the farm to 5 in order for us to focus more on crops with the highest productivity. These include tomatoes, onions, beetroot, sweet potatoes and pumpkins.

A lot of large scale work has been done manually, such as plant-ing, fertilizer and chemical application, weeding and harvesting large field of rice and corn. We would like to fast track this with effecient agricultural machinery this year.

  • BULOBA POULTRYFARM

The first barn was completed in July 2013 and an engineer from Big Dutchman in Germany came to help install all the equipment we needed. This is the first barn of what will be four barns. Each barn is designed to house 11,000 laying hens. This barn has upto 9,000 chickens producing at capacity upto 6,000 eggs daily.

The poultry operation is made of 3 components:

    - The Egg laying barns - The feed mill which allows us to both mill our own feed for our livestock as well as mill maize into flour for the Watoto children - Grain storage, where we store grain to sell to the open market.

Average production at the mill is 6 to 8 tons of feed a day which becomes an income-generating avenue for Watoto.

  • MARCHUPDATE

    WATOTO FARMREPORT

In 2014, we cut the number of vegetable types grown on the farm to 5 in order for us to focus more on crops with the highest productivity.

We intend to have at least 15 acres of sweet potatoes at a given time growing and ready for harvest in order to maintain a con-stant supply of sweet potatoes to the childrens villages.

We have also engaged over 54 men and women from surround-ing communities working on the farm as a result transforming agricultural practices in these surrounding areas.

This would not be possible without your continued support.

    Thank you.

  • JUNEUPDATE

    WATOTO SEEDLINGSPROJECT

We are currently preparing the seedling nursery which would located on the Watoto Luube farm. We will kick start by receiving Mango seeds this June and then citrus seedlings in November. The aim of this agricultural seedling nursery is to provide quality seedlings which will be sold to the open market providing a revenue stream back into the ministry.

We have engaged the irrigation material that will be needed in the hoop houses and holding area (where the seedlings are held after grafting and before sell). We will use use a drip irrigation system to supply water directly to the seedlings.

This is a tremendous opportunity with a significant return of about $5,000 per month once we are in position to sell 10,000 seedlings per month.

This would not be possible without your continued support.

    Thank you.
