Friday 17th July 2020 Devonshire Road Primary School 01204 333614 www.devonshire.bolton.sch.uk @Devonshire_Rd A message from Mrs. Hodge… Well the end of the school year is here...and what a school year it has been! Yes, there have undoubtedly been many challenges throughout this final term. Each member of our school community has had to adapt to new roles, new routines and new ways of working. And in true Devonshire Road style, everyone has pulled together and done the very best they can for our most important element: our children. "Thank you" doesn't seem to touch the surface of what I need to say, but I am not sure any words will. So thank you to our parents/carers who have become teachers (and jugglers of everything else!); thank you to all of the amazing staff in school (cleaners, teachers, caretakers, office staff, TAs, kitchen staff, welfare staff) who have continued to work either at home or in school throughout the whole pandemic in very different ways to what they are used to; thank you to the governor board who were there to support throughout; thank you to our partners in the LA who has offered support to our families. And finally, and most of all, thank you to our amazing pupils who have coped with the upheaval with the resilience and positive spirit we always expect- you make us proud every day. It truly is a privilege to lead such a wonderful school. We are looking forward to getting everybody back in September; I will email out specific guidance next week about this and will be available to speak to throughout the holidays if anyone has any questions about what September will look like. Year 6s, we will miss you as you move on but we know how wonderful each one of you is, and we are confident that you will succeed at anything you put your minds to. I hope that each member of our school community has the most restful summer. Get outside in the fresh air and safely enjoy all our wonderful country has to offer. In Key Worker C bubble, the children explored using 'AutoDraw' and creat- ed these masterpieces! The children loved using the website and had so much fun! A message from our Governing Board… As you know, the recruitment of a permanent Head Teacher was put on hold in March as school closures began. With lockdown easing, the Governing Board have now been able to complete this recruitment. After a rigorous assessment process we are extremely pleased to confirm the appointment of Mrs Emma Hodge as Head Teacher from September. Mrs Hodge has been a fantastic influence in our school since joining as Deputy Head in 2016. The governors are excited to see her wonderful leadership continue in the coming months and years. We are sure that all our children and families will join us in congratulating Mrs Hodge. A Message from Mrs Barnes… Hi Year 6 , I hope that you are all well and enjoying your last few days at Devonshire Road. I miss you all and was pleased to be able to come and say goodbye. I just want to wish you all the very best as you move on to your new schools. I think of you often and wonder how you are . You are a very special Year 6 . I know that you have so much potential to go out ,be the very best you can be and make a posi- tive difference to our world. Always remember to dream big ! Best wishes and lots of love Pam Barnes

We are hoping to collate lots of postcards and photographs from trips/holidays you may be going on to highlight the journeys our wonderful families go on outside of school. This summer holiday, wherever you may be going, we’d absolutely love if you could bring any postcards/photographs in with your children in September. Thanks for your support.

Zac in Year 2A wrote this fabulous memory about his year 2 trip to Communitree—a well deserved ‘Writer of the Week Award’!

Year 6 bubble children created an animal collage each this week (including cats, dogs, eagles) in Art and we paid particular care with the eyes and nose, creating a gradient effect with oil pastels before adding black paint. As you can see, they look real ly effective. Fantastic!

Writer of the Week in Y2N is Shahmeer who wrote this lovely letter to Mrs Ali...

Key Worker C were inspired by the amazing artwork created by the Year 6 bubbles and made some of their own animal collag-es. We used watercolours and oil pastels to create these fantastic pieces!

Saffron Y2A was very proud to have sown, grown and harvested her own Carrots.

This week’s ‘Writer of the Week’ in EYFS is Veer who wrote all

about a bus! Well done.

Our Year 1 ‘Writers of the Week’ are Olivia E (Y1S) and Ibrahim H (Y1D).

We have a new resi-dent frog in our pond and thanks to Miss Hopgood a rather large caterpillar!
