More details will follow closer to the time regarding class cover for Miss Moore whilst she is on leave. Safeguarding If you need to come into the school building, regardless of the time, please can you sign in at the School Office first. Thank you. Jaguars House Assembly On Wednesday, it was the Jaguarsturn to lead our assembly. They were given the theme of Chinese New Year (which is on 25th January). They found out that this year is the Year of the Rat. The team spent some of their break and lunchtimes gathering information and rehearsing for their assembly. They came up with a short play which demonstrated the character- istics of the different animals that are used each year and the Chinese Zodiac was formed. The assembly also looked into how Chinese New Year is celebrated in different parts of the world. The team enjoyed researching and performing their assembly. Thank you to Harry and Jasmine for leading their team and to Mr Redmill for assisting the children.

Diary Dates for Next Week School Dinners - Week 1

Wednesday 29th January, 7.00pm - Parent Workshop – Main Hall - ‘Developing Writing Skills At Home’.

We’ve had a reasonably quiet week for Buttsbury but we made up for it today with ‘Mrs Robinson’s Birthday

Bash’. I can definitely say that I have had a truly memorable day, full of excitement and fun. I think the

children enjoyed the day as much as me! Thank you also for your kind donations towards my Marathon Mission

and BCCS! It’s just another reminder of how lucky I am to work with

such amazing children, staff and families! This weekend will see further celebrations but more of the

‘tame’ variety! Have a wonderful weekend too and I shall see you on

Monday, ready to start my next half-century!

Year 6 Mock SATS Well done to all the children in Year 6 who admirably rose to the challenge of the various tests they faced this week. We were very proud of their positivity and commitment. Thank you to Miss Carroll and the Year 6 team for all the time spent planning the complex timetable and to all the teaching assistants who supported individual children. Thank you also to the other teachers in the school who

released their own teaching assistants as required. A very successful week all round.

School Disco Last Friday night, we once again held our very popular

school discos. As always, the children and even some of the teachers threw themselves into the spirit of the evening with

lots of fun dancing and singing and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We would like to thank the members of the Friends’ Association, parents and staff who

gave up their Friday evening and helped to support the event! The total raised was £1,515 which is a

fabulous amount of money! Unfortunately, we have not had any volunteers come

forward for the positions for Chair and Vice-Chair so the future of our Friends’ Association is still very much in doubt.

Parent Workshop It’s not too late to book a place to join us for our

interactive workshop about teaching writing skills at home. We have a lively evening of activities planned, led by

members of the Senior Leadership Team, with tea, coffee and biscuits too - it’s got to beat doing the ironing!

The non-uniform day for anyone who has achieved their RED award so far this academic year is on:

FRIDAY 31st January.

First Aid Workshop for Parents We had a lovely evening on Wednesday, learning skills such as CPR and how to put someone in the recovery

position. Thank you to everyone who came along - I hope you found the evening helpful and fun too! Thank you to Jenni, Safe Hands First Aid, for leading the session and

also for leading all the children’s sessions too. First Aid training will now be an annual event as it has

proved to be incredibly valuable.

Staffing News Miss Moore has some exciting news to share - she is

expecting a baby in July! We would like to pass on our congratulations to Miss Moore and her partner and wish her a smooth pregnancy. Miss Moore plans to begin her

maternity leave on Friday 3rd July. More details will follow closer to the time regarding class cover for Miss Moore

whilst she is on leave.

Safeguarding If you need to come into the school building, regardless of the time, please can you sign in at the School Office first.

Thank you.

Jaguars House Assembly On Wednesday, it was the Jaguars’ turn to lead our assembly. They were given the theme of Chinese New Year (which is on 25th January). They found out that this year is the Year of the Rat. The team spent some of their break and lunchtimes

gathering information and rehearsing for their assembly. They came up with a short play which demonstrated the character-

Afternoon Tea Once again, the children really enjoyed coming along to

‘afternoon tea’ and enthusiastically tucked into the chocolate biscuits, cakes and squash. They were equally

excited to talk about their favourite pieces of work this year which they shared with great confidence.

Success in Swimming On Wednesday eight children from each year group competed

at Billericay School in the Billericay Consortium Swimming Gala. It was a very exciting afternoon which, for many of the younger team members, was the first time they had represented their school. The team had been training very hard under the expert coaching of Elites Swim School and it certainly paid off, with our team scooping many first place wins including all of the

fourteen relay races! Overall both our Year 3/4 team and our Year 5/6 team finished in FIRST place - by quite some margin!

This means that both teams now go on to represent the Billericay Family (along with Quilters) at the next stage of the competition which is at William De Ferrers School on Thursday 4th June (pm). Congratulations to all our swimmers - you were amazing and made me very proud! Thank you to Alex and Will (Elites Swim School) and to Mrs Hall, Mrs Alderman and Mrs

Rivas for their assistance too. Thank you also to the children’s parents who have been extremely supportive of the gala preparations and training sessions, and also helped with

transporting to the gala itself.

Basketball County Final On Friday, 12 of our talented basketballers from Year 6

visited the University of Essex in Colchester for the County Final competition. The Buttsbury Team were the

qualifying team from the William de Ferrers School Sports Partnership, and were excited to represent our local

area. The morning proved to be extremely difficult and the teams we played in our group were all very

skilled. Our team put up an extra good fight and played extremely well through each game. Unfortunately, we did not get through our group stages but we did still have the

ranked games to play in the afternoon. The afternoon games were a completely different story - without the worry of qualifying for the next round, the

Buttsbury Team came alive! The children demonstrated not only great skill and teamwork, but a flair and passion

for the game. Well done to all of the team. It was a fantastic day of sport and Miss Carroll was extremely proud of the whole team and the way they conducted

themselves. Thank you to the parents who helped transport and stayed to cheer the team on during the day and to Miss Carroll

and Mrs Hall, for accompanying the team.

Year 6 Careers Festival On Tuesday afternoon we hosted our first-ever Careers Festival for Year 6 children. The aim of the

festival was to inspire the children about life beyond education and encourage them to think about what the world of work could look like for them in the future. We had a fantastic afternoon, with a wide

range of professions being shared, including hair and beauty, photography, speech therapy and metal trading to name but a few. All of the children had a great time and left with smiles on their faces. Thank you very much to all of the parents who were able to give up their time and make the event a

success. We would like to express a special thank you to Mrs Toll for putting together the promotional posters and banners to add a little more gravitas to the event. Thank you also to Mr Graves for

organising the afternoon.

The Ark Day Care Centre As part of our continuing partnership with

the Ark Day Care Centre, some of our School Council representatives from across the school, visited on Monday

afternoon. The children attending had baked some delicious cakes in preparation for the event which, as always, were much enjoyed by all the clients and members of

staff at The Ark. The children also interacted and socialised with the clients brilliantly by playing table tennis, basket-ball and completing puzzles with them! A

huge thank you to all the children for baking their yummy cakes and to Mrs

Felton and Mrs Willis for supervising the children during the visit.
