Attendance: Whole school attendance at present is 93%

YEAR 7 95% YEAR 8 94% YEAR 9 93% YEAR 10 92% YEAR 11 93%

Please remember to contact me on 01553 779635 OR email me [email protected] if your child is going to be absent or late to school. If no contact is made you may receive a text message informing you that your child has not registered for school. Please remember to call every day your child is absent as we cannot assume that they are still unfit for school. Thank you for sending in proof of medical appointments, past and present. These days can now be authorised. During the next few weeks some families will be invited to attend fast track to prosecution attendance meetings. These are set up to support families and look deeper into why students are not attending. A supportive action plan is put in place for the following 6 weeks, with achievable targets. If targets are not met or plans not followed there is a very high risk of court action by the Norfolk County Council attendance team. Good attendance is a huge part of your child's education. Please support us in improving our whole school attendance and your child's future grades. Have a lovely weekend.

Library: At present we have a long list of library books that are overdue. Students are asked to return or renew their books, but often forget to do so. It is disappointing for students who have requested a book to find another student holding on to it beyond their allotted time. Books are generally issued for three weeks and can be renewed easily upon request. Please support us by asking your child to renew or return their library books so that our information remains current and the encouragement to ‘read for pleasure’ may be supported.

Swimarathon: The Priory Rotary Club are hosting a swimarathon on Saturday 8th February from 12pm until 8pm at Alive St. James pool. There is no entry fee and all sponsorship raised is in aid of Mind, Lavender Hill Mob and other local charities. Teams of six swim lengths of the pool in relays for 55minutes. Open to all ages and abilities. Visit prioryrotary.org.uk to register your team or contact Jonathan Holmes on 07944 036673 or [email protected]

Student Commissioners: After suggesting the idea before Christmas, Finley Grief, Charlie Thompson and Ben Barrett, planned a trip to visit Woodlands Residential Home on Monday as part of Blue Monday. They were joined by Fern Barnett, Saffron Krill, Jack Reddington, Kacey Bell and Theo Marsh (all Year 9) and spent the afternoon playing scrabble and cards, painting, colouring in and generally making conversation with the residents. I cannot express enough how proud I was to watch them do this and take it all in their stride. You may also have heard/seen that they were on KLFM on Monday between 4 and 7pm promoting the work that they have been doing. https://www.klfm967.co.uk/news/klfm-news/3028059/three-young-teens-visit-care-home-to-tackle-blue-monday/ Mrs Prevett

Year 7 Round Up – Compiled by Mrs Germaney: Year 7 main exams started this week. I have had lots of feedback from the invigilators, they have reported the students have been absolutely amazing. They have listened to the rules and procedures, followed them perfectly and generally been outstanding. I have also been in with them and completely agree, it makes me feel so proud!

Attendance is improving but we still need to be pushing for the best. Please support us and your child by encouraging them to come in even when they feel a little off, it is surprising how many students feel better with a normal routine.

Please ensure you send back your permission slips for the History trip. We still have around 30-40 that have not been handed in and we cannot take students with us unless we have the paperwork. Thank you.

Year 7 Student of the Week nominations are:

7AGA Alfie Waite Giving up his own time to help pick up litter.

7SHR Lillie-Mae Locker Lillie-Mae is always respectful and sensibly behaved. She has been turning in her homework like a saint and works very hard in English.

7SMI Holly McDowell For her consistently good behaviour and positive attitude to learning. Holly is determined in her lessons and has shown this in Art as she always tries her best.

7AHI Seth Stockmeier Seth has been a consistently good student since his start in September. He has received lots of achievement points and no behaviour points which is a difficult task and something to be proud of. He is a very helpful member of the form group, always gets involved in the activities, and is extremely polite and friendly to everyone. We are proud to have him as part of 7AHI.

7RCL Sadie Simms For the positive comments I have received from fellow members of staff about her helpfulness in lessons and her positive attitude.

7TWR Shakarna-Mae Self For consistently volunteering to help in form.

7ELA Kim-Jean Carroll-Lewis For doing her best and working hard at school every day. Well done Kim!

7CRO Sophie Morey For her excellent improvement in her attendance.

Well done to you all for your nominations, keep up the good work!

Have a great weekend!

Year 8 Round Up – Compiled by Mrs Doughty: This week the Year 8’s have been working hard on their in class assessments and Maths and Science exams in the main hall. I have been so impressed by their maturity both in their classes and in the hall, they have shown that they are preparing well for what’s ahead, we have a very promising year group in the making.

We have a group of Year 8 historians out today watching a play at the Assembly Rooms telling some of the history of King’s Lynn. The play titled ‘A Scroll through Lynn’ will give the opportunity for our students to learn more about the history of our town and inspire them to find out more about the history on their doorstep. There will also be a chance for them to ask questions at the end. I’m looking forward to hearing more about the visit as we are very fortunate to live in a town entrenched in so much history.

Just a reminder as we head into the weekend, we still have some library books that need to be returned. It would be appreciated if the students could have a look at home to ensure they don’t have one that they have read and forgotten about. Thank you.

Year 9 Round Up – Compiled by Miss Crowe:

The Year 9 exams have finished! What a relief! Well done to you all for working through your exams so well. I hope you all take a well-deserved break this weekend.

Lots has been going on for the Year 9’s in classes too this week. On Monday, Miss Brinkman’s Science class were learning about Hooke’s Law. To the left we have a photo of Robert Joy (9NBO) working on the spring weight experiment, during this lesson. Students have also been very busy in their technology lessons, too. Miss Langley’s Technology class were filing, sanding and sawing and there was lots of lovely baking and cooking in Food Technology. Grace Jarvis (9JEM) made some fantastic profiteroles, thank you for sharing these Grace! Delicious!

We also had a number of student commissioners and Mrs Prevett visit the Woodlands Residential Home on “Blue Monday”, based on the idea presented by Finley Grief (9SGO/9GTE), Charlie Thompson (9NBO) and Benjamin

Barrett (9JEM) last term. From playing Scrabble to painting, the students certainly got involved. It was so heart-warming to hear of how well the day went and how much impact those Year 9’s would have had on the residents. I would just like to thank the following students for their generosity and kindness on this day; Finley Grief (9SGO/9GTE), Charlie Thompson (9NBO), Benjamin Barrett (9JEM), Fern Barnett (9JEM), Saffron Krill (9JEM), Jack Reddington (9NBO), Kacey Bell (9MJO) and Theo Marsh (9NBO). You all make me very proud to be your Head of Year.

Year 10 Round Up – Compiled by Mrs Mann:

In assembly this week the students were praised for their behaviour during the exams by myself and senior members of staff. I am delighted to say that they have really turned it around and I was hearing glowing reports from the invigilators. Technology exam today and the students have been working well. Their work is amazing!

Our assembly this week was delivered by Mrs Westbury and Mr Bugg. They spoke about the importance of getting it right, making the right choices and generally being successful. It is such a crucial time for the Year 10’s now and I do keep reminding them that their GCSE’s are getting closer. The more effort they put in now, it will all be worthwhile when they leave. Mrs Westbury talked about having ‘characteristics’, something they have done or achieved to make them stand out. Mrs Westbury also talked about the students thinking about their future aspirations and where they want to go after school. The message was simple, be the best you can be!
