Hilsea Street Hackney E5 0SH TEL : 020 8985 7898 Millfields Mag Friday 12th May 2017 Viernes 12 de MAYO DE 2017 www.millfields.hackney.sch.uk E-mail: [email protected] Well done to all the Year 6 children who have worked very hard this week, and stayed remarkably calm and collected throughout. I know that they all tried their very best and that whatever the outcome, they can be proud of their hard work and effort over the last few months and during their whole time at Millfields. I hope they will all have a good rest and enjoy a few treats and relax this weekend! There have been several triumphs and awards for Millfields sports teams this week. On Wednesday, the Year 3 and 4 Foot- ball team came very close runners-up in the inter-school competition at Mabley Green. Well done to Elvis, Louis, Viggo, Fergus, Sonny, Charlie, Bertie, Chelsea, Ronita and Rosheen; and the Year 5 team – Joseph, Ajah, Aranjit, Hamzah, Mohammed, Hugh, Alex, Exauce and Mackenzie, who are all new to playing competitive football. They played very well and finished third in their group. Well done everyone and thank you, as ever, to Sha- ron and Dwayne for all their enthusiasm and commitment! This week we also took part in the Linklaters Debating Challenge and the amazing Y6 team –Elvizo, Wiam, Fatima, Oasis and Anjali won their debate and made it through to the final that will take place at the Linklaters Offices on the Friday before half term. Well done to the team and to Kingsley for all his coaching and preparation! Today, the Cycling Squad took part in the cycling event of this academic year. Millfields are still at the top of the League but crucial wins today will see us extend the lead and hopefully be in a position to retain the title! More news on this next week. Also this week, the staff have been working with parents to keep the ‘Fair Funding for Schools’ campaign high on the agenda. Thank you to the parents that attended the meet- ing last Monday, and to all the staff who gave their time. There is another meeting this coming Monday 15th May at 4pm, to discuss the plan of action so far, so please do come along if you can help in any way. Thank you to those who have already signed our petition, but if you have not yet signed, please look for the table in the playground after school. There are have also been trips for Newcastle Class to the Fab Lab and for the ARP chil- dren, who visited the V&A Museum as part of their topic and research project on fashion. There will be a Fashion Show later this term, so look out for those dates. Another date for your diary is the Hackney Music Service Festival Launch at the Barbican on Monday 26th June. Tickets go on sale on Monday 15th, so if your child is performing as part of the choir or in the Jazz Band, please make sure you buy your ticket as there is no entry without one. Next week –Thursday 18th May is national ‘Outdoor Learning’ Day, so look out for activities taking place at school that day. Finally, have a lovely weekend.
