Crusader SafarisCrusader Safaris is a unique South African outfit offering true FREE RANGE HUNTING
in three large UNFENCED conservancies for exceptional trophy quality animals where they are INDIGENOUS and occur naturally.
This UNRESTRICTED MOVEMENT we believe leads to better trophy quality, a more challenging hunt and a authentic African safari experience.
Safaris are conducted in an ethical manner. Accommodation is in traditional luxury tented camps or lodges on huge free range conservancies. Crusader Safaris is owned by Andrew Pringle and has a highly skilled team of Professional hunters, trackers, chefs and camp staff all dedicated to ensure a memorable and rewarding African Safari.
HuntingAt Crusader Safaris we hunt three large free range, unfenced conservancies. The Baviaans River Conservancy is 450 000 acres and the Stormberg mountains is 150 000 acres, both these areas are in the Eastern Cape Province. In KwaZulu Natal we hunt the Umkomaas conservancy, a 100 000 acre area of prime unfenced free range hunting.
The time available and priority animals will determine which areas we hunt and how long we spend in each area.
All animals are hunted in their indigenous environments and with such a vast hunting area we are able to keep the hunting pressure low while maintaining the high trophy standards we set for ourselves.
We recommend .30 caliber or similar rifles on plains game hunts and attempt as much hunting on foot by spot and stalk. In order to cover widespread terrain and get to good vantage points we use comfortable 4x4 vehicles and ATVs.
Crusader Safaris has an excellent bow hunting record, the bow hunting challenge is something that we enjoy. Our bow hunts run from May through October when water is difficult to come by and animals are more concentrated. Maintaining our policy not to hunt inside high fenced areas we need these conditions for a successful hunt. Bow hunts consist of walk and stalk and blind hunting out of strategically located blinds at water holes and food plots.
Hunting for Greywing Partridge over English pointers, a large variety of waterfowl and pigeons are available on request. The Greywing is the fastest flying upland game bird and a challenging hunt.
All our hunting areas are completely set up for bow, muzzle loader and rifle hunters and no matter what your age, physical ability and weapon of choice we will always provide the necessary preparation for a successful safari.
No High FencesSouth Africa has a reputation as a high fenced hunting destination. At Crusader Safaris our hunting conservancies are not high fenced. The animals move freely through all our hunting land. This unrestricted movement creates a larger gene pool and better trophy quality, something all hunters aspire to.

Umkomaas ConservancySouthern Greater Kudu, Nyala, Bushbuck and plains game inhabit the dense indigenous forests and rolling hills of the 100 000 acre Umkomaas conservancy.
The camp is a traditional tented camp on the banks of the river, en suite chalets, electric blankets, indoor and outdoor showers all contribute to a great atmosphere and luxury tented camp experience.

Spiral Horned AntelopeSpiral-horned animals are hunted in the Umkomaas and Baviaans River. Typically they are active in the early mornings and evenings and offer some great hunting. Crusader Safaris consistently takes the best free range spiral-horned antelope in Southern Africa. To be able to hunt these species in one area, out of one camp and free ranging is a unique experience in South Africa.

Small GameCommon Reedbuck, Mountain Reedbuck and the very elusive mountain dwelling Vaal Rhebuck are endemic to South Africa’s high country and one of Crusader Safaris’ specialities. The small animals, Duiker, Klipspringer, Steenbuck and Grysbuck are worthy hunting adversaries due to their small size and shy nature. The elusive, nocturnal Bushpig is hunted over bait at night and is a great trophy.

Bow & MuzzleloaderOur bow and black powder hunts are a mixture of blind hunting and walk and stalk. As we don’t hunt high fenced areas we consider six animals in 10 days a successful safari. You can expect a success rate of 80% on kudu and good opportunities on the other species leaving Crusader Safaris confident in the knowledge that all species were hunted ethically.
Bird HuntingSouth Africa has a great diversity to offer the bird hunter. A variety of Waterfowl, Greywing Partridge and Guineafowl on dogs or Doves and Pigeons in the grain fields, Crusader Safaris offers a variety of bird hunting opportunities. The bird season runs from end of May until the end of August.

Big Game HuntingCrusader Safaris has secured the hunting rights on a significant portion of the Balule, this is a large unfenced area and forms a portion of the “Greater Kruger Conservancy.”
The Balule is part of the APNR (association of private nature reserves) that controls 650 000 acres of free range big game country on the west of Kruger. Buffalo, Elephant and all the big 5 occur naturally in the Balule.
East of the Balule in southern Mozambique Crusader Safaris hunts the large unfenced wilderness Sabie area. The Sabie conservancy has some of the best Buffalo and big game hunting in Southern Africa. A short drive north west of Maputo, ideal habitat, management and genetics make all make the Sabie one of Africa’s great big game hunting areas. Crusader Safaris has hunted some outstanding old Buffalo bulls in this area.
The camps are typical rustic hunting camps, luxury chalets and tented camps and an authentic atmosphere add to these big game hunts.
These large unfenced wilderness areas, famous for their big game hunting compliment our free range hunting areas in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu Natal with their diversity and trophy quality.

Useful Information
Malaria FreeAll of Crusader Safaris hunting areas are completely malaria free and malaria medications are not required, unless hunting buffalo. There are no mandatory shots although hepatitis and tetanus vaccinations are recommended.
ClothingLaundry is done regularly so travel light, 3 pairs of hunting clothes is sufficient. Dark browns, khaki and camo are all good colors. A warm jacket and a comfortable pair of hiking boots are essential for our hunting conditions.
WeatherAll hunting is done in the fall and winter months and pleasant weather is expected throughout the season. Rain is very unusual and the typical temperatures vary from 60°F to 80°F during the days and cooler in the evenings and early morning.
Our hunting season runs from March through November. Our mid winter months of June, July and August can get somewhat colder. Early morning and night temperatures can drop below freezing, good for hunting, but bring some warm gear. A more in depth look at Crusader Safaris as well as travel arrangements, taxidermy and customs requirements can be found on our website. www.crusadersafaris.com
