For God So Loved the World Today’s Gospel comes from the book of John, Chapter 3: verses 14-21. I would like us to look at the whole context of these verses. For many of us, over the years, we may have seen just verse 16 posted in many places. This verse states: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” This verse from John is a familiar and popular one. Often times, at large public events such as sports games, we can find someone holding up a sign that says, “John: 3:16.” The reason for this is that this passage offers a simple but clear sum-mary of the entire Gospel. In looking at verses 14-21, there are four basic truths that we can take from this Scripture. Let us look at each of them in a brief way. First, it has made clear that the Father in Heaven loves us. We know this but we will never fully comprehend the depth

of this truth. God the Father loves us with a profound and perfect love. It is a love that is deeper than anything else we could ever experience in life. His love is perfect. Second, the Father’s love was made manifest by the gift of His Son Jesus. It is a profound act of love for the Father to give us His Son. The Son meant eve-rything to the Father, and the gift of the Son to us means that the Father gives us everything. He gives His very life to us in the Person of Jesus. Third, the only appropriate response we can make to such a gift is faith. We must believe in the transforming power of accepting the Son into our lives. We must see this gift as a gift that gives us all we need. We must accept the Son into our lives by believing in His mission and giving our lives to Him in return. Fourth, the result of receiving Him and giving our lives in return is that we are saved. We will not perish in our sin; rather, we will be given eternal life. There is no other way to salvation

than through the Son. We must know, believe, accept and embrace this truth. The words of the Evangelist are in conti-nuity with the words of the prologue to John’s Gospel. In these reflections, John elaborates on a number of themes that are found in his Gospel: light and dark-ness, belief and unbelief, good and evil, salvation and condemnation. In John’s reflection, we find an observa-tion about human sinfulness. Jesus is the light that has come into the world, but people preferred the darkness. We wish to keep our sins hidden, even from God. Jesus has come into the world to reveal our sins so that they may be forgiven. This is the Good News; it is the reason for our rejoicing in this season of Lent and throughout our lives. As we continue with our Lenten journey, may we continue to be reminded of the unconditional love that the Lord has for each of us. Deacon Duane

Fund Raising for a 4th Ultrasound machine to a Pregnancy Center in Utah

Pro-Life Utah has purchased a low mileage ‘Save the Storks’ van from a Pregnancy Center in California. The van will be a great addition to the existing Pregnancy Centers in Utah. The Knights of Columbus from Utah will provide the Ultrasound Machine for the van. Pro-Life Utah will meet the requirements for the matching funds so our goal is to raise $15,500 for a 3D/4D mo-bile ultrasound machine. If you would like to help out, you can donate online at:
