Profile of Town of Malay Undoubtedly, Malay is presently the tourism capital of the Philippines. Tourism is the center of the local economy and if there are other small industries/businesses in the area, they are compliments of the main tourism business particularly in Boracay Island. Profile of Town of Malay
Malay is one of the 17 municipalities that comprise the Province of Aklan.
Classified as 1st class and basically a tourism municipality, Malay is where the world-famous Boracay Island is located.
It is comprised of 17 barangays where 3 of which are located in Boracay Island.
Population of Malay for 2010 NSO Census is at 45,811 with 9,831 households.

Objective of the Boracay E-Trike Program
To replace all fossil fuel operated tricycles in Boracay Island by electrically charged E-Trike in three (3) years time (2013 – 2016)
Background of Boracay E-Trike Program
536 Passenger tricycles with franchise operating in Boracay Island – purpose of this program is to drastically reduce carbon dioxide emission in the Island.
Planning started in 2011 and the Implementation started in 2013.

Who is overall responsible for the initiative? LGU – Malay/Transportation Office/SB/ Office of the Mayor
Who are other stakeholders? And what are their roles? BLTMPC - Transport Cooperative in Boracay – to embrace the program for
environmental sake and sustain tourism industry of Malay. Gerweiss - Fabricator/Manufacturer – produce quality E-Trikes BPI Globe BangKO – Funding Entity
How are decisions taken? AD HOC COMMITTEE ON E-TRIKE PROGRAM – Meets regularly or as the
need arises. Recommendations are made by the committee and Chief Executive has the final say after consultation with the SB c/o MTFRB.

Public- Private Partnership The Boracay E-trike Program is public and private partnership
an initiative by LGU Malay. LGU – Malay realized the importance of the private sector,
being an indispensable partner in the development of any LGU.

Initial Achievements Acceptance of the affected sector/s Ordered the first 100 E-trikes and fully funded. Proper systems (E-trike operation) have been designed to
sustain the program. Aging Policy/ Policy and Guidelines on the
Implementation of the E-Trike Program have been adopted by the Sangguniang Bayan through a resolution.
Move of the Transport Group to scout for other suppliers – 10 units are presently tested produced by manufacturer of their choice.

planning and implementing stages above board transactions.
