Ford Figo versus Volkswagen Polo: Competition Gets Complicated The 2013 edition of Ford Figo is expected to compete directly with the all new Volkswagen Polo 1.2L TSI in the hatchback segment. Considered as the next gen model in India, a larger grill, revamped headlamps and tail lamps give a prominent look to the all new Ford Figo in terms if exteriors. Apart from the similar comfort and connectivity features like Bluetooth enabled music system with aux input, the new Ford Figo features a dedicated audio stalk behind the steering wheel that adds to the significant package of interiors. Ford Figos petrol variant will average a maximum output of 15.6 kilometers per litre whereas on the other hand the diesel engine variant will generate a maximum of 20 kilometers per litre. Priced in an affordable range, the base model of this refreshed edition will cost around 3.85 lacs whereas the diesel variant will cost around 4.82 lacs. Giving it a tough fight, Volkswagen has been successful in drawing the attention for the most favored hatchback, Polo. Stepping in again with the refreshed edition of its best selling hatch, Volkswagen now plans big to roll out its Polo 1.2L TSI Turbocharged. One must add that the demand for Polo is on the rise once again in the Indian market. Boasting of being the first ever hatchback in the Indian market to exhibit a double-clutch gearbox, the new 1.2L TSI Polo will also exhibit a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox that results in smoother and quicker gear changes. Apart from this, the success of 1.2L TSI Polo is completely dependent on the pricing strategy that Volkswagen India will follow. The all new 1.2L TSI flagship for Polo range will be marketed as Polo GT in the Indian auto market. Likely to generate a maximum output of 105 bhp power, the all new Volkswagen Polo features a 1.2L TSI engine also gives 175 Nm of peak torque when paired to a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox. To differentiate the GT version from normal Polo, 1.2L TSI Polo has modified a similar body structure which is quite similar to Polo SR edition. The new hatch of 1.2L TSI Polo also features TSI and GT badges with dual tone interiors and polished metal floor pedals. 1.2L TSI Polo is being launched because the previous 1.6L petrol Polo variant could not impress the buyers in India. Though it delivered the power very quickly, an engine similar to Vento presented it like a small car with a comparatively big engine. Not suiting the taste of Indian buyers, the car couldnt perform well in the hatchback segment eventually. Filling in such gaps, Ford Figo and Volkswagen Polo are both achievers in the hatchback segment. With time, it will be interesting to see which car out of Ford Figo and Volkswagen Polo outdoes the other. maruticarsindia.in is the best car portal in India with interactive car reviews. Get to more
