The win-win-win proposition encompasses a change in thinking. When I read it I thought of a thinking style that can be described as inverse. Instead of focusing on an exclusive customer group (high-income) you concentrate on a low-income customer sector. By doing this you explore new markets, and therefore generate profit, gain experience and complex knowledge. The latter functions as a good key to new business areas which are overseen by purely profit orientated businesses. The win-win situation can be in sum described as a holistic circle, instead of clear boundaries and defined business areas.

Discussing the article “A New Alliance for Global Change”

“It is clear that an intrapreneur needs to be a developer inside the organization. To [act] on your ideas you will need empathy, cooperation and persuasion. A lots of risks will appear in your path, and you might have to cross it to start up a disruptive idea. Of course you will have to choose in which battle to play the game, and don't be afraid of failure. A stunning phrase is: Fail fast, fail cheap, learn from it, and move on!”

"Think big and act big" for me says it all. Irrespective of your background, we have to be driven by great ideas and great visions. (...) Also, learning as a continuous process, is a must! And being humble and teachable to learn from customer is inspiring.

Discussing the article “Out of Poverty”

“Agile methodology is the focus these days, with sprints (small iterations) to continuously plan, test, integrate, perform risk evaluation, and control the progress of the project to reduce the chance of failure. I like the idea of prototyping when having a lot of interaction with and input from the end user is desired during development.”

“I have learned about the concept of social intrapreneurship and how it relates to system change and shifting mindset. Yes, it is about social impact, making business as well, but one must not forget about addressing the root cause of the issues we seek to address as social intrapreneurs. I also learned that we need to be open-minded about our ideas, ready to take risks, be up for the challenges we might face within the organisation we work. I learned that we need to understand the problems we are addressing, learn how to make good pitching for our cause. We also need to be collaborative, work on co-creation and be committed.”

“In my role as a professor, first, I will include the topic of social intrapreneurship (SI) in the official syllabus of the ‘Sustainability and Social Responsibility´ course I teach. Secondly, I will include it as a central topic of the course assignments. Third, I will encourage and guide the senior students to consider social intrapreneurship, and SI potential partners for a project, as a theme for their thesis work.” Rosario Sheen

“Now I’m looking at my work differently, with a lot of enthusiasm. I see myself as a seeker and now I know how to identify the problem and how to build a model and to find solution/s and to dare improve the health system. I also have been passing on what I’ve learned to some of my colleagues and some of them are enthusiastic to learn more.”

“This Course was really interesting and inspiring. It offered new points of view and the chance to interact and engage with completely new topics, ideas, and strategies. Thanks to all of you how made this available and possible. I will definitely start sorting what I learned and experienced to find the best fit for my interests and skills and will try to find people and projects to get first insights into how it is to be a part of a social intrapreneurship team/project. Hopefully, this will lead to something I can initiate by myself in the future.”

COURSE IMPACTPost-course comments and feedback from participants

“My key takeaway from last 5 weeks is that changemakers are among us. We often see the opportunity of making a difference, however, have tons of excuses of not pursuing the solution! Social intrapreneurship and related ideas have helped me think differently. (...)

From the beginning of course, I started to evaluate my work through the lens of intrapreneurship and what left me amazed was how a systemic approach could do wonders.

I am practicing these concepts in real world already and can see a great difference in my thinking and execution. The impact will be seen on lives of people I work with in coming days and I am excited that this time, change will be more sustainable than it ever could!”

“This course was so rewarding! I learned a lot! If I shall select 3 key insights for me, they are: 1) go and meet the people around, understand their needs/their problem. Spend time to analyze the roots of the problem. It's better to improve the system rather than to solve one problem by one problem; 2) Before I saw intra/entrapreneurship work as a rather individualistic adventure, but this course made me realize that it is not! It's all about co-creation, teamwork. Your team should be of people you trust in and with the skills you need to build the solution and convince the stakeholders; 3) Last but not least: to make the world better we need the help of everyone, even children can be actors of the changes. The next steps after this course? To share the insights from this course with people within my company who are willing to have a positive impact through their work in the company. To discuss with them how we could develop a social intrapreneurship program within the company and propose some ideas. And then of course I would like in the near future to contribute, or even to lead, such a project within my company or even outside…”

Ashoka Changemakers uses a metric called Net Promoter Score®, or NPS®, to measure participants’ experience and inform program evaluation.

The scoring is based on a 0 to 10 scale. Those who respond with a score of 9 to 10 are called “Promoters,” and are considered likely to exhibit value-creating behaviors, such as remaining engaged for a longer time and making more positive referrals to other potential participants. Those who respond with a score of 0 to 6 are labeled “Detractors,” and they are believed to be less likely to exhibit the value-creating behaviors. Responses of 7 and 8 are “Passives.”

The Net Promoter Score is calculated by subtracting the percentage of participants who are Detractors from the percentage of participants who are Promoters. Technically, any score above zero can be considered a "good" score, since it implies that you have more promoters than detractors. 50 and above is excellent, and 70 and above is the best of the best.

COURSE ENHANCEMENTS & NEXT STEPSDuring Spring 2019, the course piloted weekly Office Hours, led by our facilitators. Learners had the opportunity to share their projects, ask for resources and insights, and clarify their questions about the modules.

Following requests from the graduating learners, the Ashoka Changemakers’ team created an Alumni Group on Linkedin, so they have a space to continue connected post-course graduation. The group currently has 200 members, among them social entrepreneurs, public and private sector employees, researchers, professors and students.

We also introduced a section on Ashoka’s Systems-Change Approach, an opportunity for learners to understand the different levels of impact: direct services, scaling direct services, systems-change and mindset-shift. 78% of learners confirmed they are interested in learning more about this topic.

For the next edition (Fall 2019), we will:

Strengthen the recently-created Linkedin Alumni Network, and work with successful alumni for them to become ambassadors of the course

Promote the “Ripple Effect”; i.e. encourage learners to continue spreading the knowledge they gained, inspiring other to become changemakers within and outside of their institutions.
