President of the South African Football Association

MESSAGE FROM DR DANNY JORDAAN

The match against Libya is perhaps one of the sternest tests

yet for Bafana Bafana under coach Stuart Baxter. With

morale low following failure by the team to advance to the

FIFA World Cup Russia 2018™, qualification for Cameroon

next year is non-negotiable. A win over Libya will go a long

way in realising this goal but we cannot underestimate this

opponent. After all, Libya lifted the tropy at the African

Nations Championship in 2014 when we were the hosts.

After today's match against the North Africans, Bafana

Bafana’s next assignment is back-to-back matches against

the Seychelles (October 2018) before the last legs against

Nigeria (November 2018) and Libya (March 2019). As recent

results in Russia have shown, you cannot underestimate

anyone in the game of football these days.

Having started this campaign with a convincing 2-0 away

win over Nigeria last June, Bafana Bafana have to maintain

their winning ways and restore the nation's pride and belief

in them.

There is no room for error in the remaining qualifiers and

the boys and Coach Baxter are well aware of this.

Following Amajita, Bantwana and Banyana Banyana's

recent successes in qualifying for major tournaments,

Bafana Bafana must do their bit to further the goals of

Vision 2022 and book their berth to Cameroon.

On any given day, Bafana Bafana can compete against and

beat the best in the world as was proven against world

champions Spain. Such stirling performances need to be

achieved on a much more consistent basis. This is what

the public expects from the Men’s Senior National Team

because Bafana Bafana are the nation’s pride!

MESSAGE FROM MR VUYANI JARANA

It is exciting to see our national pride, the Men's Senior

National Team BAFANA BAFANA, in action once again

after a long break due the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ and

the postponement of the AFCON Qualifiers. After the

spectacle in Russia, I have no doubt that our boys

are itching to get onto the field and make the nation

proud again. The African Nations Cup is an important

platform for our country to reclaim its rightful place

in African football and an important path on the

journey to realize SAFA’s Vision 2022. Once again, the

iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium is the venue for this

afternoon's important encounter. We hope that the

Durban fans will cheer for the team in loud voices as

they have always done in the past.

While we await to celebrate nothing but victory

tonight, September is a month when we celebrate our

heritage in South Africa. Our beautiful country is known

around the world for its strong and diverse heritage.

The pride in our heritage is something we ought to

celebrate not just on 24 September Heritage Day but

throughout our lives as proud South Africans. This is significant particularly because South

Africa is also home to eight of the 981 World Heritage Sites which are recognised

by the United Nations Educational and Scientific Organisation (UNESCO) as places of

outstanding cultural and historical importance. I take this opportunity to wish the men

and women of our country a happy Heritage Month.

Our national carrier, South African Airways, continues to collect accolades and make the

nation proud. Last month, SAA was awarded “Favourite Airline in Africa” for the 4th

consecutive year by Trazee Travel’s Millennials Readers. Trazee Travel is a unique interactive

web-based publication for millennial travelers. This honour came on the back of another

prestigious accolade when SAA was voted the Coolest Domestic Airline at the 2018 Sunday

Times Generation Next Awards in June. None of this is possible without the commitment

and dedication of our staff. I am grateful to each and every one of our SAA people.

Back to today’s matter of football, we welcome the Libya National Football Team to our

country and in particular, the beautiful City of Durban for this match. As proud supporter

of BAFANA BAFANA, South African Airways stands behind our national team every step

of the way. From staff and management at South African Airways, we wish BAFANA

BAFANA all the best in today’s match.

South African Airways. Bringing the World to Africa. Taking Africa to the World.

Ndizani Bafana ndizani!

MESSAGE FROM COUNCILLOR ZANDILE GUMEDE

Once again, the city of Durban has rolled up its sleeves

to welcome our national team, Bafana Bafana, when

they clash with Libya in this Africa Cup of Nations

qualifier match. It is always a pleasure for our city to

host such prestigious matches for our boys.

We are indeed humbled by the South African Football

Association (SAFA) who have chosen our city again

to host the national team. Durban continues to be

South Africa’s playground and an integral part of our

country’s reputation as a leading sporting destination.

We have a track record of successfully delivering

numerous sporting events on behalf of South Africa

and Africa, hence Durban is known as Africa’s premier

sporting destination.

Our iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium provides an

electric atmosphere for the players and fans to feel the

warmth and welcome that the people of Durban are

known for – Durban has a special magic for Bafana

Bafana and we wish the team well! As we celebrate

the centenary of the birth of former President Nelson

Mandela and Mama Albertina Sisulu, we hope for

Madiba Magic on the field.

In terms of planning and security, it’s all systems go

and we are ready to ensure that all our visitors feel

safe and enjoy their stay with us. We welcome all

football followers to Durban and may the best team

win!

Message fromStuart BAXTER (ENG)

SA Head Coach

Bafana Bafana resume their

mission to get to Cameroon

with a tricky encounter against

Libya, a country we have never

played before.

After a good start in the

qualifiers away to Nigeria last

year, our aim is to continue

where we left off. We missed

out on the World Cup in Russia,

and we cannot afford for the

same to happen with regard to

Cameroon next June. South

Africa must qualify for all major

tournaments for the better-

ment of football in this country.

After this clash, we will be

facing Seychelles in back-to-

back encounters and after four

matches, we should have a

clear indication of our direction

in the qualifiers.

We are all up for the challenge

and will do the best we can to

return Bafana Bafana to where

they belong, starting with this

clash against Libya. Good luck

to all us!

SOUTH AFRICA: Bafana Bafana

The 50-year-old Algerian and

Belgian was appointed in May

this year to lead Libya's 2019

AFCON campaign. Amrouche

previously had stints at the

helm of the national sides of

Equatorial Guinea, Burundi and

Kenya as well as at club sides

Daring Club Motema Pembe

and USM Alger where he was

also a midfielder.

Libya has qualified for three

previous AFCONS in 1982,

2006 and 2012. In 2014 they

won the CHAN tournament in

South Africa and in February

they lost on penalties to Sudan

to finish fourth at the 2018

CHAN. They currently sit atop

Group E after a 5 – 1 win over

the Seychelles last June. Due

to instability in their country,

the Mediterranean Knights

have had to play "home”

matches in Mali, Egypt and

Tunisia in recent years.
