May of 1776, Betsy Ross sewed the first unofficial U.S. Flag.

June 14, 1777, first official flag recognized by the Continental Congress. 13 stripes and 13 stars in a circle

Executive Order by President Eisenhower established the flag we know of today

Red represents Hardiness and Valor

White represents Purity and Innocence

Blue represents Vigilance, Perseverance and Justice

Federal Law dictates:

Flag should be lighted at all times

Never to be dipped below any other flag

It is never to touch the ground

When it is too worn to continue use, it is to be burned in a dignified manner (preferably at a flag burning ceremony)
