    Whats New with the Farm Bill?

    Right now: The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed abill authorizing SNAP cuts. The Senate is expected to take up the billlater this week.

    Impact on SNAP: This bill cuts benefits to 850,000 households.They will lose about $90 in monthly benefits under the change.

    2. News From Our Food Programs

    The Breakfast Program is currently seeing some

    of its busiest months of the year. Recent days

    have reached 150-160 guests per morning.

    The Interfaith Food Pantry served over 325households in January, providing up to a 6-day

    supply of food per household member.

    A movie day for FOCUS Breakfast and Pantry

    volunteers is being organized by Andrea Carver.

    for meal then off to the Spectrum for the movie of

    3. Farm Bill Spotlight

    Daniel Mensah is the newest addition to the

    FOCUS staff. Daniel is working alongside

    pantry volunteers and guests as custodian.

    5. Breakfast with Assemblyman Gottfried

    Assemblymember Richard Gottfried met with advocates at the FOCUS

    Breakfast Program on Tuesday January 14th. Gottfried is Chair of the

    health committee. Thank you to all for the thoughtful conversation. It was

    an important meeting to share our work and continue advocacy for the

    programs that improve access of healthy foods to families.

    Non-Violent Training In March, FOCUS will be offer-

    ing a special series of trainings on non-violent commu-

    nication to the greater community. This is a 4-part

    workshop about the practical ways to implement non-

    violent, compassionate skills into everyday life. Stay

    tuned for more details. Workshop to be presented byRev. Sue Cox and Steve Andersen.
