The FOCUS Photo Petition I Stand to End Child Hunger is in the works

and we want you to be a part of this important effort to contact our mem-

bers of Congress with a simple message: protect and strengthen fund-

    ing for child nutrition programs.

Over the summer, FOCUS offered the opportunity to participate in the

photo petition at summer worship services. Participants held various signs

with messages of support and their pictures were taken to be included in

    the petition.

We are asking FOCUS congregations to carry on with this photo petition

during the weeks of Sept. 21-28. This time frame provides 2 Sundays for

    you to participate!

An enormous donation of nutritious macaroni and cheese packages has

arrived to the FOCUS Interfaith Food Pantry, thanks to the hard work of

over 100 volunteers in coordination with the Lutheran Cluster. FOCUS

and other area food programs were the recipient of a large quantity of

family-portioned meals to be distributed to pantry guests. We thank so

many of you who volunteered with the meal packaging event to make

    this possible.

Are you ready? The FOCUS Winter Breakfast Volunteer orientation

is set for October 28, 2014, 5:30-7:30pm. All current, past, and prospec-

tive volunteers who plan to volunteer in this program are asked to attend

this important training and info-session. It will include news on the up-

coming season from staff, a light dinner, and a presentation on nonviolent

communication. We hope that you will join us.

The first day of Winter Breakfast will be November 4, 2014.

Please RSVP to Beth to let us know if you will be attending.

    Thank you! (518) 463-0460

work of advocacy around the issue of hunger and poverty. Get to know

each other, whats happening in the world of anti-hunger advocacy, and

how to plug in! Interested? Know someone in your congregation who

may like to meet-up? Contact Beth Glassanos:

These meet-ups will provide an opportunity for you to

collaborate with others in group-guided advocacy strategies.

Our first meeting will be held September 25th 6:30-7:30 PM

Please RSVP & join us! 518-443-0460

ENERGY & ETHICS - a hot topic with complicated questions and complex

answers. You want to put your faith into action, but how can you makeknowledgeable decisions with so much information and so many opin-

ions? Floyd Barwig, member of FOCUS congregation (Westminster Pres-

byterian) is the former Director, Office of Energy Efficiency and Environ-

ment (OEEE), State of NY Public Service Commission, will facilitate a

conversation to get you fired up and talking! According to Floyd Barwig,

Energy does not exist in isolation - energy choice has an impact. Lets

take the issues, look at the pros and cons, have a conversation, and leave

better equipped to make informed decisions - and THEN put your faith

    into action!

    Saturday, 9/27/2014, 9:00am - 12:00pm

    7. Advocacy Spotlight

The crisp cold weather of fall is officially here and advocacy issues are

heating up. This past Tuesday & Wednesday, FOCUS and many other

groups participated in the Faith for a Fair New York Conference to discuss

our shared work on moral budgeting, low wage workers campaigns, immi-

gration reform, single payer healthcare, and more.Below is a link to one

of the key issues at stake as we fight economic inequality in our state: theOne Fair Wage campaign.

What is the One Fair Wage Campaign?

The #1FairWage Campaign is the effort to end the sub-minimum wage for

tipped workers. The sub-minimum wage for tipped workers in New York

fuels low pay, high poverty, and unstable paychecks. There is only one fix

for this broken two-tiered wage system: It's time to end the sub-minimum

wage for our state's tipped workers.

Coming Up Soon: The Hunger Action Network of New York

State Annual Meeting. Join us! FOCUS will be heading down to Riv-

erside Church for this all-day event. We will take off in the early morning

and return in the evening. For those interested in attending, contact FO-

CUS if you are interested in carpooling: (518) 443-0460. Click here to
