Fitness class FAQ’S As the city’s largest health & leisure club we’ve got over 500 classes per week. So there’s plenty to choose from including the popular Les Mills programmes – Bodyattack, Bodybalance, Bodycombat, Bodyjam, Bodypump, Bodystep, Bodyvive and RPM.

I have never exercised before, which class would suit me? It is best to start with a low impact class such as Tums, Bums & Thighs, or Bodyvive. This will allow you to familiarise yourself with the demands of the session. Our instructors can advise you on the range of classes on offer.

What do I wear to classes? Always wear comfortable, supportive trainers. Socks are optional but they will stop your feet rubbing and could protect you from blisters. The rest of your workout gear should be comfortable. What we do insist on is that your clothes are safety-minded so if you’re going to wear extra-long wide-leg trousers be careful as you could trip on them.

Do I have to complete a Bodypump Technique before taking part in a Bodypump class? Yes. This is a specialised session which demonstrates technique and explains class content, keeping you safe and helping you get the most from the class. This class is free of charge.

What age can I begin classes? You can attend most fitness classes from age 14. For Bodypump & Pilates you need to be aged 16 or above. S1-S5's can attend our new junior fitness classes, NRJab and NRJam; see page 11 for details.

Can I attend a class if I am not a member? Yes. You can pay at reception or pay in full over the telephone to confirm your booking. (Switch, Visa, MasterCard, & Amex accepted.)

Can I just turn up to a class? Yes. It is advised however that you contact the venue of the class to ensure that there is space available, particularly during evening times. Remember, you can book up to one week in advance.

Why are some classes listed in orange, and some in green?If a class is in orange on the timetable, this means it is a new class for this edition. Green classes are our new junior fitness classes for S1-S5’s.

Junior fitness classes.Until now fitness classes have been the playground of adults only. Well no more! We’ve created two new NRJam and NRJab classes for you - if you’re in S1-S5.

Both classes are high energy and music driven with the aim of being fun as well as a workout – life is serious enough. NRJab features a mix of combat sports based moves, and NRJam is a party style dance class with a mix of pop, hip hop, funk and latin.

What's involved?Personal training sessions will make exercise fun, so that you have the motivation to not only meet, but exceed your goals. And the variety of exercises available to you is almost endless. A typical programme will combine aerobic (cardio vascular), resistance (weights) & flexibility exercises, but whatever you do will be tailored to your individual needs.

Aquafit and Aquanatal Classes.

Aquafit is aerobics in water, a fantastic low impact exercise suitable for all ages and abilities which can maintain and improve stamina, strength and suppleness as well as increase cardiovascular fitness. Aquanatal is aquafit specifically for ante/post natal women, led by specialist instructors, with a qualified midwife supporting or leading.

Class Descriptions20/20/20 – 20 minutes of step, 20 minutesof circuits, 20 minutes of abdominal work.All-round fitness.

Ab Attack – 30 minutes of abdominal workdesigned to sculpt the mid section.

Aquafit – A safe and effective workout usingthe resistance that water creates. Equipment isused to increase intensity – suitable for all agesand fitness levels.
