“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled.” Matthew 5:6
Well, I started out last months letter with “Spring is finally upon us!”, and now it seems that summer is
already here in full force with temps spiking above 90 degrees and torrential rains as I write this letter.
I have to say, there’s nothing like an event or task that comes around on a regular basis that makes the
days, weeks, and months go by so quickly.
So summer is here. School is over and all the fun things that we look forward to in the short Minnesota
summers are upon us….mission trips, vacations, weekend outings and picnics, the fair. We love it all
and try to get as much as possible crammed into these three short months. Which is why I need to get
on my soapbox once again and urge you all not to put worship on the back burner.
Jesus said in His Sermon on the Mount “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for
they shall be filled.” In other words, blessed are those who seek after God, who have a deep desire to
honor Him and love Him with their lives. Who put Him first in all they do and make time for the
things of God in their lives. That’s what it means to hunger and thirst for righteousness. You want the
righteousness of Christ to come forth in your lives.
Ironically, it’s generally people that are already Believers who hunger and thirst for righteousness. It’s
those who are already saved and have tasted of God’s grace and mercy. Remember the Lay’s potato
chip slogan? You can’t eat just one! That’s kind of what it’s like with God’s love. Once you’ve tasted
of His goodness, you only want more! You want to know Him more, love Him more, serve Him more,
experience Him more. You simply want the fullness of God in your life. If you haven’t tasted of His
goodness, you’re probably perfectly satisfied pursuing other things, all the while missing out on the
only thing that can truly satisfy.
The leadership at First Lutheran is as committed to providing excellent worship and opportunities to
study, serve, and fellowship during the summer months as we are the rest of the year. We hope that
you’ll have that same commitment, to worship regularly, study, pray, fellowship with your family of
faith, and keep your giving consistent through the summer months. Not only is this pleasing to God,
but it encourages the body of believers who consider First Lutheran their family of faith.
So let’s commit to not ‘losing momentum’ during the next few weeks. God is on the move at FLC, and
in the world for that matter. And I believe I’ve heard the LORD say that “we are a part of it.” We’re a
part of what He’s doing and more importantly, what He’s going to do! And so I ask you to join me in
asking God to stir up a hunger and thirst for righteousness in all of us. “Let us not neglect meeting
together, as some have the habit of doing. Rather, let us encourage each other, and all the more as you
see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25
In His JOY ~

YOUTH SUMMER MISSION TRIP – JUNE 23rd - 30th
The theme verse for our summer mission trip is “He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6
Our Mission Trip is fast approaching!!! Our team – AJ Pirkl, Jadan Young, Dakota Nappin, Joey Pirkl, John Pirkl and Pastor Sandy – have already had two training and equipping sessions and we can tell already, it’s going to be a great trip! In addition, the LORD has been bringing all the logistics together beautifully, so we’re all eager to see what He has in store for us out in Rapid City!
Please keep this trip in your prayers, that the LORD will continue to equip our team for His service. Also pray that He will work in and through the people we will meet in such a way that we will all be impacted in a way that brings glory to Jesus. Also, please keep in mind the following dates:
SATURDAY, JUNE 23rd MISSION TRIP SEND-OFF @ 5:00 PM. We will have our weekend worship on Saturday afternoon rather than Sunday morning so we can send off our team immediately following our service. We’ll be staying overnight in the Sioux Falls area on Saturday night so that we’re able to make it to our destination by 4:30 pm Sunday afternoon.
SUNDAY, JULY 8th MISSION TRIP YOUTH SERVICE Our team will be sharing our experiences with
the congregation at our morning worship service (Church picnic to follow)
There will be a MISSION TRIP BAKE SALE on Sunday, June 3rd
following our worship service. The kids have done so well at
raising money for their trip, but we’re still about $600 short of
funding the entire trip. We hope that you’ll show your support by bringing your baked goods in on that Sunday morning as a way to
help offset our costs. We’re also going to give you an opportunity
to get matched up with one of our students to give them prayer
support as they go off to serve Christ in Rapid City, SD.

A big shout out to Deacons Kathy Streiff and Randy Borchert who recently learned and
carried out all that’s needed to be done for a Sunday Morning worship service. They lined up a substitute pastor, created and printed the bulletins, chose the worship
songs, and led the liturgy. Wow! You guys really rocked – and hopefully were blessed!
You are appreciated!

worship that morning. So ask the LORD who He might want you to invite to both
worship and the picnic and then start praying for boldness to ask, and a heart to receive.

ESTONIA AWARENESS AND FUNDRAISER
Come and fellowship with us to celebrate summer and to learn more about Estonia
and Tartu Academy, our new ministry partner. All are welcome, including guests!
Come for dinner or the movie, or both!
Sunday, June 10th at First Lutheran
This will not only be a fun night to learn more about Estonia, but it will also be a night to come
together in support of Pastor Siimon Haamer’s efforts to obtain a new location for Tartu Academy, a Lutheran school of ministry that operates in conjunction with a Lutheran seminary in Tallin, Estonia. Our goal at FLC is to raise $5000 toward this project. A letter has been sent out so please be in prayer about how God may be calling you and/or your friends to train up
pastors and ministry leaders in a country that is in desperate need of Jesus!

Movie “The Singing Revolution”
7:00 pm in the sanctuary
Between 1986 and 1991, the people of Estonia protested against their Soviet occupiers in large rallies. Although these protests were
fundamentally peaceful, the Estonians used a weapon powerful enough to rattle an empire: song. Patriotic songs, to be precise,
which the Soviets had outlawed in Estonia. Thousands upon thousands would assemble to sing in defiance. This documentary
unveils the story of a population that stood up against their oppressors with nothing but their voices and their pride.

LCMC UPDATE
We recently received a letter from the LCMC Board of Trustees addressing two resolutions that were brought up at the last Annual Gathering in regards to the requirements needed for pastoral certification within LCMC. Basically, their response was that there have been no changes to the standards. Any pastor seeing certification with LCMC is required to have a Master of Divinity degree in Lutheran theology, or equivalent. It was the ‘or equivalent’ that was causing some legitimate confusion. The letter, which went out to all congregations in LCMC, explained how the current certification guideline explains the ‘or equivalent’, as well as the process used to adopt this document. The letter is posted on the bulletin if anyone has an interest in reading it. You’re also welcome to make a copy.
SCRIP FOR SALE
We continually have scrip cards available from HyVee, Fleet Farm, and Kwik Trip in $25, $50, and $100 amounts. **PLEASE NOTE: We make the most profit on Kwik Trip which is an easy buy! Everyone needs gas, right? Consider making it a habit to purchase SCRIP for all your Kwik Trip needs so our church can see even greater benefits! See Lori Springer or Dean Shankland before or after church to purchase. All proceeds remain in the Scrip Fund for future ministry needs.
We recycle aluminum cans. Please place in the trash can under the steps (not in the WM container). Proceeds go to the building fund.
Thank you for your help.
