This new space will provide the type of first impression to our guests that truly represents the excellence we pursue at Huntington University,” stated Vince Haupert, vice president for advancement. Officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in October, the 3,000-square foot Welcome Center is part of the Merillat Centre for the Arts and houses both undergraduate and graduate admissions offices, as well as meeting spaces for prospective students and campus visitors. “The development of the new Welcome Center has transformed the work of the admissions team,” said Daniel Solms, vice president of enrollment management & marketing. “The new space allows us to focus on our visitors and their experience while they are on campus, helping us to better connect as we share the legacy of Huntington University.” First Federal Savings Bank and the Zahn family have been long-time supporters of Huntington University and both are members of the Milton Wright Fellowship. Stephen Zahn was a director on the Huntington University Foundation, Board of Trustees and received Huntington University’s Distinguished Service Award in 2004. Michael Zahn, Steve’s son, currently serves as vice president of finance for the Huntington University Foundation board of directors. First Federal Announces Teller of the Year and Recognizes Employees First Federal Savings Bank announces Christina Ruckman has been named the Teller of the Year for the fourth consecutive year. She was awarded at First Federal’s Christmas Party, held on December 7th. Christina joined the First Federal team in February of 2012 and works at the Downtown Huntington Office. Teller of the Year is awarded based on accuracy, hard work, customer service, dedication, number of transactions and job knowledge. The following tellers were recognized for their high transaction counts: Christina Ruckman, Kari Goble and Ruth Thompson. Christina Ruckman, Kari Goble, Maryna Zoda and Ruth Thompson were recognized for their balancing records for 2016. Newer tellers with a perfect balancing record were Gigi Baloski, Kyler Town and Jillian Brosman. Also honored were employees celebrating anniversaries: Sarah O’Leary, Mary Beth Behrens, Steven McKay, Carla Williams, Addey Bitzer and Alecia Crago for 5 years, Tom Mills for 10 years, Kim Fischer, Lisa Hockemeyer, Julie Crain, Jennifer Getman, Satin Lemon and Bill Forgey for 15 years and Michael Zahn for 20 years of service. First Federal Savings Bank and Zahn Family donate $40,000 to Huntington University

Huntington University announced it has received a $40,000 donation from First Federal Savings Bank and Steve and Alyce Zahn of Huntington, Indiana. The funds will be allocated to the university’s recently completed Welcome Center.

Kim Fischer marked a 15 year milestone with First Federal on December 10, 2016. Kim is the underwriter and processor for the mortgage department at the downtown office and was promoted to an Assistant Vice President in 2014. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in Bloomington. She and her husband Rick moved from Fort Wayne to Huntington County in 1999 where they live with their horses, dogs and cats.

Julie Crain celebrated her 15th anniversary with First Federal on November 5, 2016. Julie is the receptionist at the Frontage Road location. She is a lifelong resident of Huntington where she resides with her husband Charlie. They attend New Hope United Brethren Church in Huntington where Julie is on the New Programs Committee and teaches a Grief Share Program. Julie has three children and four grandchildren.

Lisa Hockemeyer marked a 15 year milestone on November 26, 2016. Lisa is the Assistant Vice President of Indirect Lending and the branch manager of the South Jefferson Street location. She has a Business degree from IPFW and a Foundations of Banking diploma from the American Banker’s Association as well as 43 years of banking experience. Lisa is currently on the Lafontaine Center Board, and is a past member of the Whitley County Humane Society Board, and Whitley County Chamber of Commerce where she also served as Vice President. She lives in South Whitley with her husband Richard and has three step-children, three granddaughters and one grandson.

Michael Zahn, Chief Executive Officer and President, celebrated 20 years on December 30, 2016. Michael is the third generation to hold the title of President and CEO at First Federal Savings Bank. He became a Senior Vice President and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2000. In 2005, he was appointed as President of the institution and in January 2011, appointed Chief Executive Officer.Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University and graduated Cum Laude with a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Notre Dame.

Zahn is a past President of the local Optimist Club, Junior Achievement, Parkview Huntington YMCA, the Bowen Center, Lime City Economic Development, the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce and was campaign chairman for the United Way. Michael continues to serve on several local non profit for profit boards, is on the board for the Indiana Bankers Association, and serves on several committees for the American Bankers Association.Michael and his wife Susan, live in Huntington with their three sons.
