First Baptist CROSSINGS December 2020 November brought a return to online-only services as Covid cases continue to rise and as the Champaign County Health Director has requested that churches stop meeting in person if possible. The services are streamed on the church Facebook page each Sunday starting at 10:30 a.m., and adult Sunday School continues to meet via Zoom at 9 a.m. If you have not received a Zoom link invitation and would like to join in, please email the church at [email protected]. Brian will return from his leave of absence midway through December as he finishes up dealing with some family issues. Until then, please contact your deacons for any needs you have, or contact our church administrator, Michelle, for any questions or information regarding church business. We look forward to hearing Adam Krause preach on December 6, with Brian returning to preach the following week. Children & Youth Activities

Youth Schedule (grades 6-12): Meeting on Zoom on Wednesdays with worship, games, prayer time and various Bible studies, using the “Intersections” curriculum from

LeaderTrek, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. Fran Street, Brian Romanowski, Bruce Swartz, Jenny Weiss, Abby Heckman and Pat Theobald provide adult leadership.

Kids’ Club Schedule (grades K-5): These students are meeting over Zoom for a lesson, which uses the Gospel Project curriculum, activities, and prayer time, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Amy Krause, Helen Murphy, Linda Swartz and Pat Theobald provide adult leadership.

Life Groups

First Baptist Church of Mahomet currently has three small groups meeting, all of which are open to new members. The dates and times are as follows:

Sundays @6 p.m. (Meets 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month) This small group is currently studying Letters to the Church by Francis Chan. It is normally led by Bruce Swartz and meets at the Theobalds’ home. If you are not currently a member of a small group and are interested in joining, please contact Bruce at (217) 369-0912 or at [email protected]. Friday @6:30 p.m. (Meets every other week) This small group is beginning The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren, which explores the question of why we are here. The group is led by Pastor Brian Romanowski and meets in Judy M’s garage/driveway. If you are not currently a member of a small group and are interested in joining, please contact Brian at (309) 826-8116 or at [email protected].

Fridays @7 p.m. (Meets weekly, except the first Friday of the month) This small group is studying Romans. It currently meets over Zoom. If you are not currently a member of a small group and are interested in joining, please contact Adam at (630) 991-3895 or at [email protected].

Ministries Each month, Helping Hands provides food and other items for people in need in Mahomet. Our church participates by providing sugar. Our goal each month is 100 lbs. of sugar, dish soap, and shampoo. God bless

New Commandment Ministry is a group of volunteers who help with projects within the church family as well as outside the church. This is an outreach ministry. Due to an abundance of caution, the Christmas play rehearsals and filming has been postponed into the new year. Youth, children (and their parents) should keep scripts handy for those new play dates TBD later and keep working on your lines! Christmas will come again before Easter!

Recipe of the Month

Ham, Tomato and Bean Soup By Adrian Lamkin

1 cup diced ham 3 cups water2 Tbsp. margarine 1 Tbsp. brown sugar2 Tbsp. chopped onion 1 Tbsp. cider vinegar2 Tbsp. chopped Celery2 Tbsp. chopped green pepper1 (16 oz. can diced tomatoes1 (10 oz) can beef bouillon1 (28 oz) can baked beans

Cook ham or Canadian bacon in margarine until lightly browned. Add onion, celery, and green pepper. Cook until soft but not brown. Stir in tomatoes, bouillon, water, brown sugar and vinegar. Simmer 8-10 minutes. Mash the baked beans and add to the rest of the soup. Stir will and heat until piping hot. Season to taste.
