Instead, Christ, in the midst of our struggles, points us to the faithfulness of God.” That is a powerful statement reflecting one’s trust in God. We are in the midst of that season of reflection, mystery, and doubt known as Lent. Soon we will leave the season of Lent and engage ourselves in a season of declarations concerning the love and mercy of God. It is a time when we come face to face with God as seen in the washing of feet, the breaking of bread, the spilling of blood, and the starkness of the cross. It is a time when our faith is defined by how we understand both the mystery of the resurrection and the faithfulness of God. I invite to you walk through Pas- sion Week with both your heart and mind open to God’s grace. Wednesday, April 5 - 7:00 p.m. - Lenten meditation on the prayers of Jesus on the Cross. Sunday, April 9, Palm Sunday Thursday, April 13 - 7:00 p.m. - Maundy Thursday Service - We will gather in the Fellowship Table and around tables, participate in the Last Supper of Jesus. This service will use the prayers and songs of the Seder Service celebrating the Exodus from Egypt and transition into our Lord’s last meal with the disciples. Friday, April 14 - 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. - Stations of the Cross. This is a self directed service, walking through the last day of Jesus. It will be in the sanctuary. Each station will be a time of prayer, reflection, and silence. Friday, April 14 - 7:00 p.m. - Good Friday Service at Cove Presbyterian. You are invited to travel to Cove Presbyterian and participate in a Good Friday Service of song and scripture the service will be led by Revs. Gary Charles and Louie Andrews. Cove is about 20 minutes away on north US 29. Sunday, April 16, Easter Sunday - We will celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord with word, song and scripture at both 8:30 and 11:00. Louie’s Musings “Thinking through the hole in my head”

I recently had an encounter with a dermatologist that left quite a

hole in my scalp. By the time you read this, a plastic surgeon will

have plugged the hole and thoughts which are better off unspoken

will once again be confined. But right now there is no filter on my

wayward thoughts.

1. Why are Easter, March Madness and the Masters so close to-

gether? My mind should be focusing on the passion and resur-

rection of Jesus and yet I am preoccupied with a green jacket.

2. Why did Leslie and Nancy win the lottery to go to a Master’s

practice round and I came up empty? Life isn’t fair!

3. Why do we study our March Madness Brackets so diligently

and the participants hardly study at all?

4. Why does the music on Palm Sunday sound like a pep band?

5. What is so good about Good Friday?

6. How can Easter make sense without Passion Week?

7. Does anyone really understand Passion Week?

8. Why do you really believe Jesus died? How does that event

define your understanding of God?

9. Maybe Easter, March Madness and the Masters are so close

together so we don’t over think Easter? Then again, maybe it

wouldn’t hurt to think about it a little bit more.

Wood Ministry News Mother Nature loves to throw a surprise party. After a relatively mild winter, March came roaring in like a lion and stayed that way for a couple of weeks. As bad as it may have seemed at times, we fared a lot better than our friends to the north. So, we continue to split and deliver wood. By mid-March we had delivered over 50 pickup loads and are well on our way to matching last year’s total of 60 loads. None of this happens without the strong support we’ve received from you, the Mission Team, and especially the men and women of the wood ministry. We’ve also had an exceptional response from several tree services and individuals who have delivered firewood to the woodpile. We’re finishing our ‘season’ with almost as much wood as we had when we started.

Senior Luncheon News The Rockfish Valley Senior Group came hopping down the Bunny Trail to Afton Fire House on March 23rd. The tables were decorated like spring and Easter even though Easter was a way off. If we had waited until the next luncheon, however, Easter would have passed. We managed to get enough beautiful flowers for table arrangements and for the seniors to take home. A good time was had by all. Pat did herself proud as usual making everything look festive. Jeanne and Dave Lawson prepared a wonderful lunch of meatloaf, mashed potatoes, broccoli salad, pound cake and ice cream. Don't you wish you had been there? The able helpers were Emma Campbell, Virginia Lambert, Fred Hanchey, Pat Frink, Bonnie Jefferson and Marita Digney. They all had a great time, too. We still need people to sign up to plan the July 27th and August 24th Senior luncheons. So, maybe get a partner to sign up with you and plan some summer fare for their enjoyment. Please visit the sheet in the hall in the new frame and add your name(s). It will be much appreciated. Pat Frink @ 434-361-0050 or Bonnie Jefferson @ 434-361-1779

Mission Committee Updates The Easter Basket project collection of food has begun. Food should be deposited in the library on the table that will be marked “Mission”. Please feel free to donate money if you don’t have time to shop and if you are bringing in cans goods and the like, please check the expiration dates on the food. We have changed the list go-ing forward and the committee will shop for the fresh potatoes and onions to insure nothing goes bad waiting for distribution. The current food drive includes the following items: Broth, gravy, canned vegetables: green beans, peas, corn, etc., sweet potatoes (yams), macaroni and cheese, rice or pasta packages, soup, rolls or muffin mix, boxed potato mixes, canned fruit, Easter candy, and cookies. The committee thanks you again for your love, support and generosity. Ann Mische
