2018 Kanter Lecture: My Family Made Me Do It: Family-Work Confl ict and Abusive SupervisionIn April, CFF along with the Krannert School of Management, Department of Human Development and Family Studies, Department of Psychological Sciences, Department of Sociology, and the Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence, brought 2017 Kanter Award for Excellence in Work-Family Research winner, Stephen Courtright to campus to present his research: My family made me do it: A cross-domain, self-regulatory perspective on antecedents to abusive supervision. (http://dx.doi.org/10.5465/amj.2013.1009)

View Dr. Courtright’s presentation slides here. A recording of the lecture will also be posted to the lecture website. Check back soon: https://www.purdue.edu/hhs/hdfs/cff/initiatives/kanteraward/2018lecture/

Why does Purdue host the Kanter Lecture Series? For 18 years, The Center for Families and the Boston College Center for Work & Family have presented the Rosabeth Moss Kanter Award for Excellence in Work-Family Research to raise the awareness of high quality work-family research among the scholar, consultant and practitioner communities. Our two organizations have worked to foster a community of over 700 scholars, and educate corporate practitioners responsible for programs, practices and policies that affect more than 4 million employees and their families. Finalists’ articles are selected through a rigorous process by a committee that averages over 50 members – for 2018 we have 63! No applications or nominations are accepted. Five fi nalists are selected from over 2500 articles published, in 83 leading English-language journals from around the world.

Scholastic Book Fair

We were able to add to the Elaine Dolch library by hosting a scholastic book fair. We had unique donation bookplates created by each of the classrooms so that each family/child could put one into their donated book. Each classroom was able to purchase $100.00 worth of books in addition to books donated to the classroom.

Thank you to the parent volunteers who helped with the book fair. We could not have done it without you!

And thank you for all of your support and the LOVE of reading!

DV LEAP Executive Director Lee Ann De Reus has received the 2018 Alumni Merit Award from her undergraduate alma mater, Iowa State University. This honor “recognizes ISU alumni for outstanding humanitarian efforts that transcend purely professional accomplishments and bring honor to the University.” In 2017, De Reus was also honored by her graduate school alma mater (HHS) with the Purdue University Distinguished Service Alumni Award.

Congratulations, Lee Ann!
