TRANSCRIPT
Dear Fernan Families,
Please join me at the North Idaho Wild Game Feast, sponsored by Fernan Elementary; a STEM Focus School. This com-
munity event is designed to raise money to support Fernan students. I will be cooking the meal with the help of teachers and
family and our staff will be the servers. We also have a silent and live auction which we hope will raise additional funds to
build a science lab at Fernan.
The auction items include a dinner for six prepared and served in your home by me, box seats for 30 at Cirque du Solei in
Spokane with food and drinks (over $3,000.00 value) and a night bowling (yes, really bowling) in a private luxury home with
food and drinks provided by the host.
This is not an ordinary meal but a gourmet feast. The meal will be served at Avondale Golf Club and costs $75.00 per per-
son with past Fernan Student, Colby Acuff providing music entertainment.

ENROLLMENT CONFIRMATION FORMS:
An Enrollment Confirmation form was sent home the week of January 26th. This information will help us
to know where your child plans to attend school for the 2015-2016 school year. Please complete and return
this form to the office by Friday, February 6, 2015. It is very important that we have a form returned for
each student. Please note this is not a registration form, and this does not guarantee your student’s school
for next year. More information will follow regarding school registration for all Coeur d’ Alene School
District students.
Please continue sending in your Box Tops and make sure to put your name and your teacher's
name on the baggie or paper. Box Tops can be found on General Mills cereals, Nature Valley
products, Fiber One products, Betty Crocker products, Mott’s products, Chex Mix, Yoplait
products, Pillsbury products, Totino’s products and Progresso soups.
Please bring in Labels for Education that you can find on the following products:
Campbell’s Soup, Bic, Danimals, Pace, Pepperidge Farm, Prego, Spagettios,
Swanson, & V8.
SILVERWOOD READING
PROGRAM
Silverwood reading logs will be coming home
with your child soon.
The Silverwood reading program is meant to
motivate your students to read and to estab-
lish a lifelong love of reading. Students who
read for at least ten hours will receive a free
ticket to Silverwood. All sheets are due no
later than March 16. Absolutely no late forms
will be accepted!
Read! Read! Read!
CONTACT INFORMATION
Please make sure we have your current home,
cell and work phone numbers so that we may
contact you in case of an emergency. Please
notify the office if you have an email address
so that we may send you upcoming events and
important notices.
ILLNESS
Remember, if your child has been ill, they
need to be fever-free without medication for 24
hours prior to returning to school. A fever is
considered anything over 100 degrees. Thank
you for calling the school and letting us know
when your child is home ill.
MARCH 10th MAINTENANCE & OPERATIONS LEVY: On March 10th the Coeur d’Alene School Dis-
trict will ask voters to consider approving a two-year Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Levy of $15M.
The current M&O levy expires June 2015. Local taxpayer support of public schools has become essential.
One out of five dollars the district spends on educating our students comes from the local levy. Levy dollars
fund the day-to-day operations of the district’s educational programs, bridging the gap between the funding
provided by the state and the cost of meeting the educational needs of our students. This spring’s request
will include a multi-year plan to reduce class sizes and hire more teachers. The levy request will also include
purchasing curriculum materials and textbooks for students. Want to learn more about the upcoming March
10th Maintenance & Operations levy? Additional facts & voter information may be found on the district's
website at: http://www.cdaschools.org.
Celebrate Healthy Hearts
February is National Heart Month giving us the annual oppor-
tunity to focus on the importance of healthy hearts. Here are a
few important tips to focus on with your family. First, include
foods which are fiber rich such as whole grain varieties of
breads, cereals, rice and pastas as well as dried beans, fruits
and vegetables. Secondly, strive to limit saturated fats by
choosing lean meats and low-fat dairy products. Limit the
amounts of fried foods by using lower fat cooking methods such
as baking, broiling, grilling, or sautéing. Additionally, limit
your salt intake through choosing less processed foods like
salty soups and snacks. District 271 elementary students will
celebrate with a “Healthy Hearts” theme meal on Thursday,
February 12th. You can find additional info on heart health
through the nutrition links on our website at
www.cdaschools.org .

PTA NEWS Hello Fernan Families, On almost all correspondence we receive from Fernan you will see the statement: "Fernan Elementary, as a purposeful commu-
nity, is dedicated to educating all students to their maximum potential while emphasizing social responsibility in a positive cli-
mate." Lets all become part of that positive climate by volunteering in some capacity with the PTA! We have many opportuni-
ties to suit just about any circumstance or time constraint. Over the next few months we will be actively searching for board
members to help guide the PTA over the next year. We offer "shadow" positions to give you experience before you take an active
board seat. It's a wonderful way to meet other parents or boost your resume. Please consider getting involved and email us at
[email protected] for more information on available positions.
Thank you to all those students and staff who showed their Fernan spirit by participating in Crazy Hat Day. Congratulations
to our crazy hat winners. It was very difficult to pick just one from each classroom. Look for pictures in the PTA glass case
located inside the school.
