THE AIPM FELP develops confident and capable leaders who are adaptable, collaborative, eager to embrace change and ready to tackle the fundamental challenges facing law enforcement organisations today. What is the FELP? The FELP was born from a need to build the capabilities of the EL2 executives. This longitudinal development program has been further refined and is now offered for multi-agency participation within the context of the Commonwealth security environment. Designed in response to the increasing complexity of Australia’s security environment where the traditional boundaries of defence, regulation, intelligence, compliance, diplomacy and enforcement are being reshaped and re-energised through fast communications, better data analytics and more powerful technologies. The future executives responsible for the continuity and certainty of Australia’s security need new skills, new ways of looking at the world, new ways of negotiating and aligning power, and most importantly a new sense of self and purpose in order to be effective leaders. FELP: Future Executive Leaders Program Who should attend? Individuals in Executive Level 2 roles identified as having the potential to accelerate their leadership capacity beyond the requirements of the middle manager role. Program Outcomes The aims of the FELP are to enhance participants’ ability to: • Skilfully assess the broader context in order to make effective judgements on complex operational, policy, procedural and cultural change issues • Develop the ability to cultivate and integrate multi-disciplinary teams to maximise capability and deliver results • Effectively influence others to manage competing demands, mobilise change and strengthen workplace practices and outcomes • Translate, interpret and communicate tensions existing in the middle management domain of the organisation • Expand personal networks across the Commonwealth security infrastructure for the enhancement of leadership performance and the building of a cohort of future orientated learners and leaders capable of progressing complex challenges with innovation and agility. Program Structure This program provides multiple opportunities for learning aligned with participant needs, including significant, structured on-the-job components to encourage learning through experiences (around 70%), network based learning (around 20%) and face-to-face learning (around 10%).
